The Japan-EU Free Trade Deal has muddied the debate.

Put simply: if we leave the EU's free trade area, then a decision to move a factory from the UK to Japan is a decision which keeps that factory in the EU's free trade area.

E.g. Nissan, Honda
(Also Dyson's moved to Singapore)

...and if we didnt leave it there would be no point in moving it back to Japan with all of the associated costs and transport costs going forward.
Not rocket science. The ridiculous thing is the way the Tory mp for the constituency just tried to dismiss this
Yet now I am seeing Brexiters actually place the blame on the factory closing to the FTA whether we are in the EU or not. Never underestimate a Brexiter’s ability to rewrite the script.
I’ve read the article. The opening question, on whether Brexit has an impact on the decision, “almost certainly“ is the answer. Diesel only constitutes a small part of manufacturing. This is a better explanation twitter.com/femi_sorry/sta…
Surely it's clarified the debate? Now, we're talking basic cause and effect. If we leave the EU, this is the kind of thing that will happen.
It's as if Leavers are tying themselves in knots just to try not to see the glaringly obvious. It's actually more difficult to misunderstand than it is to understand. They're making harder work for themselves.
You mean it’s muddled and spoilt your Brexit is causing everything negative debate. If we had remained, it would still have made perfect business sense given the new Japan deal for them to at least consider moving their manufacturing back home.
Blindingly obvious really. Where we were the gateway to Europe, they can do it straight out of Japan.
Sayonara, Japanese car-makers...
Without brexit we could and would have vetoed the deal.
It’s plainly obvious that leaving #EU #Customs Union would have a negative impact on jobs. Any #businessman would tell you that ! The lies from the likes of @Digbylj is astounding. He must retract his lie ‘ not a single job at risk because of #Brexit ‘ WRONG!

Unlike this article, there is an excellent, concise explanation here twitter.com/femi_sorry/sta…
How does the Japan-EU FTD include Dyson's move to Singapore?
Why would Japanese car makers need to invest €Bn’s In Europe when they can now invest that money in their own country with access to cheaper Labour, lower taxes, higher incentives #Nationalism #FTA #DontneedEUMembership
Don’t disagree with your comments Femi and leaving the EU does impact our own industry but for motor vehicles especially the emergence of Electric cars, the lure of the huge Asian market is unfortunately a no brainer for those companies as well as the diesel fallout over here
Hondas decision has nothing to do with Brexit, to say it is, is a dangerously false statement. If we leave both the UK and Japan will be free to set up a trade deal
In a nutshell. We warned you!
Which the UK remaining in the EU would also do, of course....
Exactly. Not rocket science. And Justin Tomlinson's attempts to stear blame away from Brexit are just pitiful.

How the ordinary man and woman have been duped...makes you weep
Oh yes....This is having your cake and eating it! I wonder if this really what Leave campaign had in mind. No evidence of job creation anywhere. And still no trade agreements. #PutItToThePeople seems to make even more sense.
The fact you’ve had to explain that, worries me what people actually understand! 🤷🏼‍♂️
Dyson moves to Singapore! Are they in the EU?? No. Why didn’t he decide to move to another EU country?? Oh that’s right because it’s nothing to do with Brexit!! #brexit #LeaveEU
Oh Femi when are you going to run the country ? Please for our sanity!!!!
Interesting point is why announce it now? It strikes me as though there may be a little bit of a threat over the deal built into this. Just seems that all these announcements just before Brexit than just after seems a bit coincidental.
Ok but the jobs have left Europe? And all the upstream parts suppliers?
Of Japan can be part of the free trade deal in the eu..... How hard can it be for us to be part of a free trade deal......fairly sure Japan doesn't contribute to the EU budget and fairly sure there's not freedom of movement.
Femi remind us who has killed the diesel car market despite there being no credible replacement vehicle class? That's the EU. Just a reminder that the latest Euro 6 diesels are "so bad" they are allowed for free within the new London ultra low emission zone. You are clueless
Exactly Femi... the EU cost us jobs. The reason they opened the uk factories was our employment laws and to sell their cars here. Now they can import them from japan much cheaper thatnks to eu. Well done femi... #whofundsfemi
If we stay in the EU's free trade area then moving a fctory from anywhere in Europe to Japan still keeps the factory in the EU free trade area... However..Japan weirdly didn't need to join the EU to get a free trade deal agreed.... ?
The ignorance from remainers around this issue
when they say its not Brexit, see this from last year. reut.rs/2TVGeXl
If this is true, Britain is moving from "gateway to Europe" to cul-de-sac.
@Femi_Sorry rightly says the EU27 will get 0% tariff Hondas when they come from Japan.
Brexit has made Honda's decision very easy for them, even if it isn't the #1.
It's not good news for anyone in Europe.
So let's look to make the UK attractive by #Remain ing & Reforming EU.
which also has a trade deal with the EU..............
