Hemingway should have coached. The best coaches I’ve studied work really hard to remove the opponent and the scoreboard and just compete against themselves to improve everyday. Saban, Kerr, Belichick, Stevens, Dorrance, Walsh, etc. This is Kaizen. There isn’t a better option.

That's what writing is. It has to be...because we don't even get the benefit of what sports have, which is a score at the end of the game and a record at the end of the season.

Love this. The Latin root of Compete is Competere and it means to seek with. True Competition is with yourself. Enjoy a great Memorial Day weekend.
As a former English teacher I have always appreciated Hemingway, and not just for his stories... good stuff!
