A light, quick, cheap solution so good, it should be copied the world over:

The fietsvlonder is a “bike platform” that temporarily swaps one car parking space for 10 bicycles. If deemed a success, the curb is permanently adjusted, and the structure is moved to the next location.

A great way to trial new bike parking locations, from Rotterdam

We’d like to thank The Hague Deputy Mayor @RvanAsten for taking the time to show off his city’s new Fietsvlonder yesterday. He was also gracious enough to shoot a short video explaining the project, which will be shared on @Cycling_Embassy’s social media channels early next week!
Hey @AklTransport, how quickly can you order a bunch of these? Brilliant way to discover demand for bike parking. Plonk this on the street, watch it fill with bikes (10 bikes where one car would sit!), install permanent rack, move temporary one, repeat as needed across the city!
I’ve been talking a lot about these in my meetings in @SheffCityRegion

Removing the space of 1 car can increase footfall not least because the spaces outside many shops are occupied by people working locally, so are rarely available for passing trade.
I love intelligent, efficient city-building like this.

Saw a few of these on our recent trip to The Netherlands. These were ones I saw in Wassenaar and Voorburg. pic.twitter.com/fUEtLqFTmR

This is genius! Effective and basic. Hard to argue with such simple social experiments. And also hard to argue with the results, positive or negative. So there's much to gain, and little to lose. Let's do this #Vancouver! #biking
One (of many) failures of the pending escooter bill is that it fails to address how escooters claim scarce pedestrian space for parking. Here’s an idea: For every 10,000 new scooters & dockless bikes add 1,000 floating bike racks across DC. Fund them with climate bonds. #bikdc
Great idea for testing shift in road space - one for @MillRoadCambs @camcycle @dave4labour
Something to try in #København? A ’temporary’ measure like this can perhaps facilitate decision-making?
Städte brauchen platzsparende Mobilität. In einem Auto sitzen im Schnitt 1,15 Personen. Auf einem Pkw-Parkplatz können 10 Fahrräder parken. Eigentlich logisch, welches Verkehrsmittel in Städten Vorrang haben sollte.
The approach Auckland and #A4EAKL #A4EPilot - starting with High Street: testing street reconfigurations first, helping people build new habits, before permanent changes.
Combining street changes with behaviour change.
cc: @CityOfNorthVan @NVanDistrict @WestVanDistrict How about a few of these scattered along retail streets?

any familiarity with these? Can we try some of these out in Chicago on streets and take up less sidewalk space sorely needed for people on foot or cafe space?
Liverpool City Council has announced a £4m plan to create a "green web" of cycle routes throughout the city. Based on their track record of botched projects, do you trust Labour to invest this money effectively? This is once in a lifetime stuff. Let's make our voices heard.
This is clever - it reminds me of the architecture/design approach of "paving the cow paths":
Neat. And I like the top reply, too.
Seriously who do I pester to get Oxford to do this. I will personally tow the bloody platforms into place if need be.
This could be interesting as we seek more bike parking around the heritage area.
These look good - would be useful in Brum.
Cool idea. ♥️🚴🏿‍♀️
This would be a great way to trial extra bike capacity. Can we get some to tour Stockport, @Kate_Butler @cllrdavidm @DavidSedgwick ?
Would love to see something like this used in Ottawa.
Ooh, will be forwarding this to some people I know.
Somehow @seattledot would figure out how to make this cost 3 times as much as in any other city even though it would literally just mean ordering them, driving it to the location in a truck and dropping it in the street.
Flexible, adaptable solutions
This is the kind of incremental pilot initiative that we need here in #Nanaimo. I did not ride my 🚲 to the nightmarket because there is no place to lock up. @cityofnanaimo @donbonner for the downtown mobility hub.
Ooh can we get one of these for cheltenham? I’ve got a few ideas for spots already...
In reply to @modacitylife
we need this in our neck of the woods... can we crowdsource funds for one...

I’m such a fan of things that are easy to implement - if it works, it stays. If not, try elsewhere. So much easier to convince people to try stuff with this model.

🚴‍♀️ IS this something from which @haringeycouncil could learn? @HaringeyCyclist @HaringeyLiving
In Princess May Road in London there are at least two bike lockers each taking up a car parking space. Also there is a parklet, wooden decking and some chairs where anyone can stop and relax. We can and must do this everywhere. #ClimateCrisis #ClimateEmergency #ClimateBreakdown
Eine einfache,schnelle Lösung.👍👍👍👍

Should really give this a go. Could transform the city over time.

.@wandbc possible portable site trial tool for the 2014/15 pre-funded by @MayorofLondon 10 cycle hoops, 8 of which still not delivered, despite WBC committed on-street cycle parking aim to ‘Improve parking availability and security’ @artglyn @Jo_Earlsfield lastnotlost.wordpress.com/2018/03/03/wan…
Is there a way of fabricating one of these at a low cost for Parking day? @BikeWorcester @goSHIFTscheme Then we take it to the streets of Worcester, so long as we pay the parking what's the problem? #parkingday
Cycles and public transport should be way to go in metro cities here too.
This would be a great approach for the summer months in YYC to convert one stall at key retail and urban settings to allow for more ease of cycling.
In reply to @lisahelps
@lisahelps this would be a fantastic way to free up space on our narrower sidewalks! #bikeyyj
Cc @PierreHebert92
In reply to @fayblock
@fayblock Ealing could put these in stop and shop bays when they go, to encourage mode shift to cycling?
Hey, @citywaterloo And @CityKitchener ? What do you say? They'd be a huge addition to our streetscape, and a start on a response to that climate emergency.
In reply to @modacitylife
Looks like a good way to steal 10 bikes at a time :-) ... just hitch up to a van and go.. I would think twice before locking my bike to a temp structure.
In reply to @modacitylife
Laudable but... you 𝑑𝑜 realize they just invented the bike rack, yes?
In reply to @modacitylife
one for @kinsale_ie? Traffic is choking and nowhere to put a bike

Whereas in Tauranga they use bike stands for shopping trolleys pic.twitter.com/FyFGZIgDb6
In reply to @modacitylife
Had some of these in @CityofAdelaide . Mostly removed to make more car parking. IIRC no resources to even assess how well used they were. At least I've never seen anyone ticketed for locking to a lamp post...
