I'm sorry to break this anyone who didn't already know it, but Harold Bloom was a serial sexual predator.

His abuses were egregious and well-known-- and continued unpunished for generations. Every obituary should mention this.

"Powerful men and woman who belittle and humiliate their subordinates manage not to belittle or humiliate their supervisors. Neither men nor women tend to harass upward in a hierarchy."

Barbara Hodgdon--my wonderful, fierce, take-no-s**t co-chair, may she rest in peace--once told a trio of us never to get into an elevator alone with Harold Bloom. Women have to protect each other when institutions refuse to.

Stop making white men your heroes.

This is so important and it's sickening to see people dismissing Bloom's history of abuse as minor faults. Thanks for this

Sadly, this is quite true. I personally knew a number of women at Yale who were ensnared by him.

I wasn't aware of this story of Harold Bloom's sexual harassment of students. Even sadder is how little has changed.

Hey but at least he had terrible cultural politics.

So it turns out that Harold Bloom was the academic equivalent of Steptoe. I do love it when people have to quickly reel in their posthumous praise like a prodded snail's eye.

I think the only correct thing Bloom ever said was when he described himself as a "tired old monster."

A serial predator? Even Wolf said: “Professor Bloom is not a bad guy! He’s a good guy in many ways! That’s something I tried to make clear in this piece,” Ms. Wolf said. “One stupid action shouldn’t demonize someone or victimize someone." observer.com/2004/03/naomi-…

I didn’t know this! Appreciate you posting.

let's keep this in mind and continue with our search for a comprehensive obituary of Harold Bloom.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA "You have the aura of election upon you" 🤢🤢🤢

"Why didn't these women come forward at the time?" they ask. This article breaks down what it was like in 2004 to try and get answers about these things.

Also, no more lionizing predators, okay? Can we not?

Also what about, um, James Joyce and the way he perversely objectified his wife Molly, or whatever her name was? When will it ever end, and who started it all, if not Eve, of all people?

he pensat el mateix. Jo ho llegia amb el ull petit per si de cas. També es que ha mort, i ja saps... Pero vaja, també hi es això
