My grandad went to war during WWII, came back a broken man and the effects of that live on in my family in very real ways. Millions have a story like that.

Today this is how European nations resolve their differences. It's a beautiful thing.

We are idiots for giving this up.

Yes WW2 affected my late grandfather too after he fought on D-Day. Did not hear much about the time after the war but he never recovered from what he saw and experienced. Brexit is an utter betrayal of our war heroes. We need to fight Brexit and the Corrupt Tories at all times

Well said, Matt. My Dad was in WW2 and his Dad in WW1. The value of the EU in maintaining the peace through close ties with our neighbours cannot be underestimated.

As a species, humans incline to war. This has been the longest ever period of peace in Europe. And we are endangering that, and in particular ourselves. Insane.

Britain is in Europe. It's a European country. It is culturally, financially, geographically and in terms of trade, fully part of Europe. To exclude itself from the infrastructure of Europe is sheer madness and will damage Britain immeasurably. But this madness can be cured.

My parents - both now gone - were teenagers in WW2 and both joined the RAF as soon as they could after the war. Mum lived in Swansea, Dad in south London - both areas bombed heavily. Dad thankfully didn't see Brexit - Mum was heartbroken by the vote.

I feel for you . My mum was evacuated away from her parents to live with strangers during WW2 .Was always hungry, saw German planes fly over and her mums best friend and family killed by e bomb in London. She hates Brexit and I am also pleased my dear dad isn’t here to see it

I refuse to be categorised as part of the 'we' in 'we are idiots for giving this up'. Tory governments, installed by deceit, lies and manipulation on a scale never seen before in UK have defied truth, reason & logic to do this & further their 'kill the welfare state' plan here.

Thank goodness for NATO keeping the peace.

What a mature way the EU has of dealing with issues, they will probably be relieved that, as of next month, they no longer have to deal with absolute imbeciles banging their desks or turning their backs during anthems.
In reply to @mattdrummer
It's not we! It's the self interest idiots!
In reply to @mattdrummer
Probably every family in the UK now could tell a similar story, if they could bear to.
And yes, there are a lot of idiots who want to go back to the Darkness of Before.

Tweets en verhalen als deze zijn talloos, het lijkt idd vooral de tussengeneratie te zijn die zich behoorlijk kortzichtig en egoistisch opstelt. twitter.com/mattdrummer/st…

Who is this 'we'? Some of have been fighting tooth and nail to keep it!
In reply to @mattdrummer
Didn't go to war for then to hand the reigns of power to Germany through the EEC/EU
Majority of Uk are not idiots & want to remain in Eu. Corrupt Tory gov dragging Uk out of EU using only 37% who voted leave as mandate!! Lies, fptp distortion, overseas unfluence & funding, misinfo via tabloids. Bbc & covert digital propaganda have been used to CON & oppress UK

The EU, which is not Europe, was founded in 1993. It is thanx to NATO that we have peace for 75 years now. pic.twitter.com/lThknbXe8N

Maybe check how France is resolving its internal differences before trying to take the lazy route to nirvana
Very clear. Very sad. Nothing to add.
In reply to @mattdrummer
It’s more than that: It’s cooperation! The UK may leave (now) but I’m sure they will once rejoin. Until that time let’s make the best of it!
In reply to @mattdrummer
You dont have to be a member of the EU to resolve differences other than with war. Thank god we have NATO. Leaving the EU will not result in war amongst European nations.
In reply to @mattdrummer
During WWII, when my grandfather was 3 years old, his own father was deported for resistance to the concentration camp in Germany. He never came back.
In reply to @mattdrummer
I think it's neat when someone calls others idiots in the context of lobbying for cooperation and problem solving!
Absolutely right-me a child of a Lancaster pilot, and a mother who was bombed , evacuated, bombed again, evacuated again etc etc . Hence 'Bombweed', my adaptation of her fictional description of how war impacted relationships during and after WW2. I will hang out EU flag Jan31st
Just this.. I am sad
