This 95-year-old Japanese woman regularly enjoyed playing Tetris on her GameBoy. It eventually broke down, but no shop could repair it. Her grandson wrote a letter to Nintendo explaining the situation. They sent back a brand new one and told her to “please live a long life.”

Minor correction: as other’s have rightfully pointed out in the replies, it was actually the grandmother herself who wrote the letter. The grandson only made the suggestion that she do so. That’s what I get for just skimming the article and not paying close enough attention.

So nintendo have a stock of new old gameboys lying around somewhere 👀👀

The grand mother herself wrote to Nintendo, not her grand son. Anyway good story. I often hear about this kind of communication between people and Nintendo.

You know, my grandma was 85 and she played her Nuntendo 64 until the last minute of her life. I know it mught sound sad but she died doing something she loved the most. I tattoed Nintendo controls, it was part of her live the same way it is part of mine now.
that this whole thing came about because the Japanese grandma misunderstood 「神対応」(kami taiou) as「紙対応」(kami taiou) so she wrote a them a letter 😭

God damn Nintendo, I don't come here to feel feelings!

Hey props to Nintendo for that sort of kindness. Thats really awesome and wholesome. It's also a surprise the still have a supply of new gameboys lying around or are still making them in very small supply.

One of the things Nintendo DOES have over Sony: actual caring customer service.

Nintendo is really great with stuff like this

When I was a kid my of Nintendo DS broke, my mom sent an email to Nintendo and told her to just send it over and they fixed it, no charge save for shipping it to then I think?
In reply to @OliverJia1014
Wait, they have new Game Boys? Do I have to be 95 to get one?
In reply to @OliverJia1014

😭😭😭 When I fled my country, my 20 year old Gameboy and Tetris came with me. I use Tetris in PTSD treatment and would be so lost without it. Keeping it safe in the camp was hard but I did it and now I'm out and settling in to my new home. This grandma has my heart!!

🥺 Esa Japonesa es un amor, 95 años jugando Tetris en Gameboy, a mi parecer el mejor videojuego de la historia.

Aww, my grandmother loved playing Tetris on a Gameboy pocket for years while I was growing up, I used to watch her play... Now I'm in tears 😭
Japanese company is a different thing, once a relative of mine who her husband is a japanese local send a complaint because the salad he bought is to salty. Not long after an employee knock her house to bring a brand new salad for free from their company and ask for feedback.
