Journalists around the globe, particularly women and journalists of color, are being targeted for the role they play in ensuring a free and informed society. They should be free to work without harassment.

I am grateful for the stellar support of @nytimes leadership voiced in this statement as I've faced months of harassment, slander, death & rape threat from some Iran opposition groups & trolls.

Thank you @deanbaquet @cliffordlevy @meslackman et al

.@farnazfassihi, an experienced journalist who covers Iran for @nytimes, has faced vile threats and attacks online. Farnaz has broken big stories about Iran, its leaders and the lives of its people at a time when information from the country is vital. We condemn those attacks.

Violent rape & death threats against ourselves & our families, doxxing of our personal information, smear & disinformation campaigns aimed at discrediting our work, have all become a regular experience for female journalists who cover Iran.
