Scrapping human rights protections because you don't like abiding by the law, all while the justice system crumbles. The new Justice Secretary shows his true colours telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/…

I always felt safer with the European Court of human rights as a last resort. It genuinely felt as we were protected. I don't trust the tories in any way shape or form, to protect us.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Is a 'danger to democracy' those who choose to break International law, European law and UK law with no accountability? Those who make lies so matter of fact that the electorate turn away from engaging? Those who see Division as a positive? And a media that is mainly complicit? pic.twitter.com/V7OY9iW6xt

In reply to @DavidLammy
must come out & state unequivocally it'll reverse Tory hijack of UK democracy when in power. Raab's attack on human rights just the latest -Neutering Electoral Comm. -Voter ID -Right to protest -"Free Speech tsar" -BBC/C4 interference -Supreme Court -FPTP mayors etc..

In reply to @Himself132
There's this from @DavidLammy but I, like you, would like to hear a lot more from all members of the Front Bench + as many Backbenchers as possible. They should be in an uproar. Even if they are powerless to change anything, they need to protest loudly! twitter.com/DavidLammy/sta…

The UK's continued adherence to the European Convention on Human Rights is an important part of Northern Ireland's Good Friday Agreement. Diluting or ending that adherence would be downright dangerous, adding to Brexit tensions undermining peace in NI. thejusticegap.com/human-rights-a…

Jesus. He couldn't look any more like Rik Mayall's Alan B'Stard. pic.twitter.com/8qPznDmpxT

In reply to @DavidLammy
The law should be legislated by Parliament, not by unelected judges.

This is puke inducing. What a hateful man. Raab not Lammy - as if there could be any doubt!

In reply to @DavidLammy
He cannot overhaul the Human rights act. There are 47 members of the court of human rights. With a judge from every member country. Unless of course he intends withdrawing from it.

Scrap human rights. Keep human rights. Another polarised choice which will currently be presented by @UKLabour with the intangible nuance of paper candidates, sabotaging our democracy. #GetPRDone

In reply to @DavidLammy
The reputation of the country is in the hands of some of the least capable people ever to get near the levers of power. It’s absolutely horrendous what Raab and Patel and Johnson are up to. #JohnsonHasFailedTheNation

In reply to @DavidLammy
There's a very thin end to this wedge, and it's got nothing to do with Europe or the EU.

In reply to @DavidLammy
'Correcting' court judgments has a rather sinister tone to it. "No, Mr Justice xxx, *this* is what you meant to say."

In reply to @DavidLammy
How can he overhaul the Human Right Act if he's never read it, bit like the GFA.

In reply to @DavidLammy
I will retweet this. Separation of powers is a fundamental prerequisite of good governance.

In reply to @DavidLammy
He should reconsider his lawless remarks in the light of the tragic events in Southend on Friday

In reply to @DavidLammy
It’d be nice if, just for once, this government took time out from tipping over tables and instead set about clearing up some of the mess they’ve made.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Labour should pledge to reverse it as soon as it gets in

In reply to @DavidLammy
If the human rights was used for what it was intended there wouldn’t be a problem, But when it is bent and abused that’s a different kettle of fish

In reply to @DavidLammy
Feels like we are hostages to flat out criminals at this stage.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Why are people so surprised? Anybody with an ounce of insight would have seen this coming. Human rights are now fair game. Brexit is a shambles and Johnson standing at the box every week saying its not won't change that

When has Strasbourg dictated to the UK, can Raab tell us that?
This attempt to remove the UK from this court's jurisdiction has Zero to do with anything other than Tax dodging? pic.twitter.com/KNebsac4yj

In reply to @DavidLammy
You helped Tories win the last election by sabotaging Jeremy Corbyn. Reflect on that.

In reply to @DavidLammy
If it served a positive purpose, it wouldn't need scrapping. But as we see time & time again, it just leads to abuse & political gain. Which is basically the only reason you like it.

In reply to @DavidLammy
And there was me thinking the greatest Tory of them all, Winston Churchill, was one of the first signataries to the HRA and it was put together by British lawyers after WWII... but if you didn't know the importance of Cross-channel trade, I'd guess you'd know very little else!

In reply to @DavidLammy
Obviously the justice sec wants less protection for the citizens of this country....its so painfully obvious...

In reply to @DavidLammy
Lammy said-“Rape convictions are at historic lows & women are rapidly losing faith in the criminal justice system, while record backlogs have left the courts at breaking point & yet the priority for Raab seems to be undermining vital human rights legislation that protects us all”

In reply to @DavidLammy
I’m glad that you are shouting about this David but where is Keir? I’m listening to LBC on my afternoon walk around Copenhagen and callers are asking where Labour are. Your colleagues should also be jumping up and down about this and everything else about this crap government.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Scrapping women's rights because of damaging trans ideology ditto

In reply to @DavidLammy
This is very serious, question is @DavidLammy , what can be done about it? What mechanisims are open to us to frustrate this clear attack on our rights and freedoms?

In reply to @DavidLammy
has anyone flagged this @Telegraph article yet regarding I’d Strasbourg actually does control U.K. laws? Can’t believe Raab would be telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth

Raab is another Tory unfit for Public Office. Another sure and certain danger to the security, safety & well being of the UK.
Anyone who says they don't like a Human Rights Act should be automatically disqualified from office.

In reply to @DavidLammy
He’s levelling up. First thing you do when levelling up is to obliterate laws surrounding equality and humanity.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Don’t joke about this David. Your party is facilitating this country sleepwalking into fascism. You are now complicit. Do your history. When the executive overrides the judiciary and the electorate is ignored fascism happens. Get a grip @Kier_Starmer & @UKLabour

In reply to @DavidLammy
What, like single sex spaces?

In reply to @DavidLammy
We wish to abide by our own laws. What's wrong with that?

In reply to @DavidLammy
David, as you will be aware this British human rights legislation is tightly bound into the Northern Ireland Good Friday Agreement. Surely any tampering with this legislation by @DominicRaab threatens that Agreement? I hope Labour monitors this risk closely

In reply to @DavidLammy
“Patel wants us to grow her a work force?” “Yes, Orlando.” “We’ve plenty of material for the basic Raab model, my dear.” “No, Orlando, she wants workers able to walk, talk, and, well, work competently and put their backs into it.” “Oh, I see …” #Marr jodatu.wordpress.com/2021/09/28/gro…

In reply to @DavidLammy
He’s lying. The Human Rights Act is British law, nothing to do with EU or Strasbourg.

Raab wants a Tory dictatorship. How are all you lawyers going to act against this? Can the Law Society disbar him? Or are you going to wait till he dismantles the Supreme Court. Less analysis and more action is desperately needed.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Hard to fathom why someone with a law degree would hate Human Rights. I'm glad I didn't teach him. He went to Oxford and Cambridge and I've met lots of lawyers from there: most are ignorant of the law and extremely arrogant about their own ability. I would not hire one of them

In reply to @DavidLammy
It has been there plan since they gained power. To take away our freedom's, our human rights, our dignity, take us back to dickensian times, and make us an even bigger joke around the world 🌎 Tory dictatorship

In reply to @DavidLammy
Do you suppose women are hoarding protections as well as rights?

In reply to @DavidLammy
Labour needs to help the Lib Dems defeat him in Esher and Walton next time. We were not far off. We can’t be letting tribalism keep these people in power.

In reply to @DavidLammy
No doubt his first act will to a amend the definition of misogyny.

Allowing the Johnson administration to diminish human rights protection just because of political ideology will just allow more exploitation of people!

'My name is Dominic Raab and I'm a Tory.
I don't support the Human Rights Act and I don't believe in economic and social rights'.
He serves some purpose but it's clearly not for the general good. #DominicRaab

Same thing happening in the States, surprise surprise? the refusal to accept the 14th Amendment in their fight to achieve equality and control their own destinies. pic.twitter.com/LnVvF7SRPy

It’s hard to put your finger on any specific problem Labour have.
But following Lammy gives a clue.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Problem is the Human Rights Act protects the rights of criminals over normal people.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Safety of British people should be put before the 'rights' of rapists and murders'. No authority should stand above the British Gov, voted in by the British people. That Gov should be accountable only to the British people.

In reply to @DavidLammy
It’s called getting rid of Wokeness Lammy, which you know all about 🥊🥊

In reply to @DavidLammy
'Reforming', improve your English. Not same thing you said.

Every time I look at Rab all I see is sneering Alan B’Stard….

In reply to @DavidLammy
A 'Progressive Alliance' could do something about it NOW!

Told everyone Brexit would lead to this... Just didn't expect it so soon.

In reply to @DavidLammy
He’s more like the Injustice Secretary

The ruling class have always used the law to suit themselves. That is the reason the working class created its own political party, to establish a more equitable legal system. #BLMUK #Windrush #BlackTwitter

One of the central Remain reasons- for protection against our own Govt. You need to grasp the implications and oppose @Keir_Starmer @UKLabour @LibDems @TheGreenParty #ProgressiveAlliance

In reply to @DavidLammy
Bit rich coming from you - who would strip woman's rights/protections. Is that because you don't consider us as really human? More dinosaury than human? pic.twitter.com/Yx6zkBg20h

Are you taking the knee to show respect for Sir David Amess 🧐🧐🧐

In reply to @DavidLammy
Populist stuff again.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Yes we need an overhaul as it seems people forcing themselves I to the UK have more rights than UK Nationals

Labour 'champions' human rights.... but only ever for offenders, only ever people that have done wrong, not the victims of crime.

Human rights seem to only kick in when you are the scum of the earth. And Labour will always have your back 🤦‍♂️

In reply to @DavidLammy
Lammy, but something needs to be done, and changed sharpish. You can't have people who want to fiddle with children, terrorists blowing up folk, then hiding behind loop holes in the law. It doesn't make sense. It's corrupt and evil.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Courts are full up with @UKLabour members.

In reply to @DavidLammy
And yet still you are nowhere near being in Government. Why is that?

In reply to @DavidLammy
Well, wait, are you surprised?! This was as clear as anything and is why he got the job in the first place!! Corrupt Tories…

In reply to @DavidLammy

In reply to @DavidLammy
Raab clearly not a intelligent man, the boy they bullied at school.

In reply to @DavidLammy
But what if WE don't want the overhaul?? Who's going to stop him?

I have been reading about how fascism takes hold, Mr. Raab might be reading the same book. These are dangerous times

In reply to @DavidLammy
We are soooooooooo fucked, this is twat that didn't know Britain was an island, Lord have mercy on us all 🤦‍♂️

In reply to @DavidLammy
This guy is one of the many in govt that makes me feel uneasy.

Who the hell does he think he is? What a ridiculous man he is. In any other Country he’d have been sacked. Totally useless. “The sea was out “ one of his classics 😱😱🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥

In reply to @DavidLammy
This is appalling. He is looking suspiciously Arian in the photo.

In reply to @DavidLammy
When he says "overhaul", do not think its to stop soldiers or nurses being charged with crimes, or undoing judgements.....watch this to see where his thoughts are. No social security, no job security, no #NHS. youtube.com/shorts/I2dB1Ih…

He has the look of someone you’d fine on ya nans sofa when you pop round unexpected n he’s selling her roof insurance or some bollocks she doesn’t need …… cos he’s a c@nt

In reply to @DavidLammy
The proposal isn't to scrap human rights law but is to address the misuse of the law. Lawyers have created a business out of making it work for them in a way never intended.

Dominic Raab and Priti Patel are making a mockery of the rule of law. This is so dangerous and unforgivable. All opposition parties need to come together to fight this.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Yet another government policy statement behind a right wing press paywall? Privatisation of democracy bankrolling tory cronies.

In reply to @DavidLammy
eu = human rights for all uk = only for the rich hence why brexit needed.

Churchill will no doubt be rolling in his grave.

#RaabsLaw

Just add to the crumbling health service, education system, social services…..

Strasbourg is not the enemy. Just like Brussels never was. This is an absolutely terrifying narrative from the Justice Secretary.

In reply to @DavidLammy
Why is the EU not a member of it I wonder 🤔
