While a miss distance of 63 metres might sound like a lot, remember our spacecraft is flying at an altitude of 708 km, and is itself travelling at 7,500 metres per second. At these speeds, we leave nothing to chance. pic.twitter.com/sYlpU4RozR

was manoeuvred to increase its altitude, putting even more space between it and the rocket body. This is Cryosat's first #debrisavoidance manoeuvre of the year, but its one of an increasing number performed routinely by our teams at #MissionControl
