Is this the end of the Sunday roast?

A quarter of cooks now say they’re less likely to prepare a Sunday roast because of the rising costs of ingredients, and keeping the oven on for so long.

But surely nothing beats a traditional roast? Will you keep having them? https://t.co/LbA9JOpub4

@JeremyVineOn5 Everything seems to be air-fryer and microwave to save energy. #JeremyVine

@JeremyVineOn5 Can be cooked in an air fryer, half the time and half the cost of cooking

@JeremyVineOn5 I can’t believe it has come to this a discussion about whether you can afford to cook a Sunday dinner in this day and age. It’s unbelievable.

@JeremyVineOn5 A lot of people will be having ready meal Sunday roasts. Using a microwave is cheap and some of the ready meals are tasty.

@JeremyVineOn5 Last Sunday was the 1st Sunday roast we've had in 2 years maybe longer. Not a big fan of roast dinners, always find them to filling. Plus eat less meat, so prefer meals like curries, lasagne, spaghetti bolonaise etc.

@JeremyVineOn5 I can still have a Sunday roast but I cook the food in an air fryer (chicken cooked in just under an hour) uses less energy than conventional oven too roast potatoes in airfryer are nice and crispy too ?

@JeremyVineOn5 We have a Sunday roast and it is economical. Large Chicken (1.7kg/3.7lbs) £4.50. Put in roasting tin, cover with foil. Cook on No 3 for two hours, then No 6 for 1 hour. Remove from Oven. Place on plate. Using small sharp knife and fork remove ALL meat from the bones. contd

@JeremyVineOn5 Yes but with slight variations, I cooked the beef in the slow cooker last Sunday, it was absolutely delicious. No roasts, just mash and veg on the hob.

@JeremyVineOn5 Keep the roast do enough for two days and cook something else whilst the oven is on then it’s about the same cost.

@JeremyVineOn5 I remember the days of having lamb shanks for Sunday dinner, as they were cheap but then ‘celebrity’ chefs made them trendy and now lb for lb is more expensive than a leg of lamb. I will not give up my roast dinners no matter what. Best thing to have on a Sunday

@JeremyVineOn5 Sunday roast is primarily an English tradition.

@JeremyVineOn5 We invested in an air fryer and we hardly use our oven now. It Cooks joints of beef, lamb etc BETTER than the oven.

@JeremyVineOn5 I love a Sunday roast but hate cooking it - a waste of a Sunday morning prepping and cooking and clearing away afterwards. Only in the winter do I cook a roast and even then I wonder is it worth the hassle.

@JeremyVineOn5 There's nothing like home cooked and fresh, but in this case might be cheaper to buy ready meal and get 3/4 for less than £10. All in oven at same time for 45 mins and less in microwave. Not one for processed food, but less salt and fat versions are out there.

@JeremyVineOn5 I bought an air frier. It'll do the roast beef, roast potatoes, even yorkshire puddings for a fraction of the cost of an oven. I can't remember the last time I put the oven on tbh.

@JeremyVineOn5 We have a roast every Sunday the family get together and it's actually cheaper to feed a family with the home cooked filling meal than carryout or frozen meals
