Ahmed & Arinze were arrested & imprisoned for loitering opposite the house of a state security officer in Gwarinpa.

It reminded me that you can spend years in prison for just being poor in Nigeria. A thread (1)

I remember when I & a few colleagues went to administer health care to some prisoners, in every two that gave a chief complaint, the words; "I am innocent, I shouldn't be here" was among. It's a terrible thing to be poor in Nigeria. Politicians steal & go scot-free. It's sad!

As a lawyer, I know there are many Ahmed's and Arinze's that fill our correctional center's while real criminals with deep pockets are slipping out of sight to unleash havoc on the land. Not to mention the experiences of the innocent while behind bars. Thank you @hopebehindbar .

All accolades to you, what you're doing is really amazing

I can't remember who I was telling about this offence here. It's in a follow-up to the Bright Edafe police guy's tweet on meeting an 18 year old wandering at night

I have an uncle who is currently accused of a crime and he is innocent he has spent up to six to seven years now still awaiting trial no fund to have a lawyer 😭😭 the one we could afford duped us and left the case unattempted.

Nigeria needs to understand that not all case should lead to prison. I’m just angry because so many people supporting this current system could be a victim.

I think one needs to register with a law firm no matter what job one does. I remember that a friend of mine while working in Delta state those days in a private security outfit, had to register with a law firm, due to the high risk in personnel recruitment.

God bless you real Good, so many innocent people being held in prisons. I wish other lawyers would do more to check cos most police officers just frame innocent guys up if u can't settle yourself out with them.

Wow that's lovely, congrats. There r thousands of Ahmed n Arinze in Nigeria prison. A police Supo nearly did same to me but God couldn't allow him to succeed after bragging that he will imprison me. I hate Nigeria Police, they r evil, criminal minded n very intimidating.

God bless you all for this deep humanitarian job. Keep it up!!!

The state security officer will retire someday & become completely irrelevant, then he,l know that power is Transient,he will wish such folks like this two he put in jail will visit him at or even sit opposite his house for him to have someone to talk withbut there,ll be no one
