Gold Coast’s Jack Bowes has indicated he wants to play at Geelong. Picks them over Hawthorn and Essendon.
The Cats set to receive the Suns’ pick 7 as part of the transaction to take on Bowes’ remaining money - approx $1.6mill @7NewsMelbourne

Clubs taking on contracts should have to count the contract already signed and not be able to spread it out over multiple years. If he has 2 years at 800k a year that’s what should count against Cats salary cap

Nice even competition you’ve got here @AFL

How is this a surprise to anyone. Guy chooses reigning premier over 2 absolute basket cases.

Geelong then trade pick 7 plus F1 plus Dean Gore for JHF #AFLTrade

Pick 7 will play more than him, enjoy wasting your career jack

Dunce of the year, he's 25 in January, does he walk in that side, what an idiot. Hope he spends the year in the VFL.

How many players do Geelong need?

Picks the reigning premiers and cultural powerhouse over a club that is the centre of a racism scandal and another club that is culturally bankrupt.

Excuse me while I overcome the shock.

Do people still complain about this move if Geelong didn’t win the premiership? Say they lost the Prelim final again or lost the semi… would this still be a sticking point? Yes I am Geelong supporter.

One step closer to the US model where one team can buy out another player's contract. If Sydney had tried to do the same with Buddy, there would have been uproar! The AFL should not allow GCS to get away with this..

I still haven’t seen what GC gets in return. What was the other side of the trade?

In reply to @cleary_mitch
I would like to play for Geelong. Does that mean I get to?

In reply to @cleary_mitch
I must admit I know stuff all about AFL but a) who would go to either Hawthorn and/or Essendon in the current environments at both clubs OR b) does Geelong actually develop any players or just buy them when developed?

In reply to @cleary_mitch
Does Geelong have to pay the next two years as it stands? 825k for next two years?

I have zero issues with Bowes choice, good on Geelong. But there better some serious melt pieces from the media about how unfair this is.
If Geelong get Bowes, Henry, Bruhn + pick 7 after winning a flag they are list Gods.

Ahh, the @AFL , where good players are ripped out of struggling clubs so they can go to stronger clubs. Why bother being a member?

In reply to @cleary_mitch
The rule should be that the new club picks up the contract as is,not be allowed to spread the salary over more years to accommodate the trade.
