I've been thinking about how "where presidents actually come from" seems to have no resemblance to where pundits anticipate they will come from. A lot of presidents seem like fairly last-minute decisions, or even gambles, as opposed to politicians who spend years seducing voters.

But W lucked into it by getting the evangelical vote in the southern nominating states over McCain. Until 2000, Jeb was seen to be the likely successor to the Bush dynasty. And but for the electoral college, the son of Sen. Al Gore Sr, and Sen & VP himself, would be president.
