That is NOT a penalty and is literally in the IFAB directory of what ISN'T a penalty.

It can only be a penalty if it's a deliberate act.

This image is from the IFAB.

IFAB(国際サッカー評議会)のガイドラインにこの画像があり、この状況で体の下の手か腕にボールが当たればハンドではないとはっきり定評されている。

But his arm is not supporting his body at that point. It’s in the air.

In reply to @DaleJohnsonESPN
This is what I remembered reading! Baffled by that decision given it's something that was explicitly presented on by IFAB.

Portugál-Uruguay tizenegyes kapcsán 🧐

Why does Portugal always benefit from referees decisions? Where else will his hand be in that position? FIFA again fraud

Very poor decision Dale

Four or five VAR officials and the referee on the pitch, and none of them know what the rules are. What a mess

I'm just leaving this here. I can't keep replying to replies with this. It's not a pen. The trailing/bracing arm of a player going to the ground is protected in that scenario. The referee literally doesn't know the rules.

In reply to @DaleJohnsonESPN
Peter Walton has just said that rule about the arm supporting the body went a year ago 🤷🏻‍♂️?

Please it's not just here this route is a shambles. IFAB/FIFA (and SFA) need to train their referees.

Przepis to jedno, a interpretacja drugie.

VAR working well as ever.

So why in the world was it awarded? Even more concerning, why was the referee advised to go to the monitor at all? That suggests the VAR officials also do not know the rules.

In reply to @andrew_jenn11
Correct. This is from IFAB, basically the same situation. Not a penalty.

Surprise, a ref making a mistake that favors a FIFA favorite!

A tak wyśmiewany był Doniec...

Again, VAR is only useful if the officials using it aren't complete and utter fucking morons.

Ref had a smirk on after the monitor he had an adrenaline rush and wanted the highlight. Sad

In reply to @DaleJohnsonESPN
Shocking. Not even difficult

In reply to @DaleJohnsonESPN
Is that an old pic as Peter Walton on tv there said that supporting arm rule no longer exists.

Was looking for this exact image. This is the one they showed us this year to re-certify for a referee badge. Did it touch his hand? Yes. But by letter of the CURRENT law, it is NOT a penalty.

In reply to @BigNonVeganDave
Usually lean on the side of VAR having improved certain elements of the game, though its shortcomings are often exposed, BUT this is as bad as it gets.

Karma is coming for Uruguay for what they did to Ghana in 2014. In my country we say 'siku ya nyani kufa miti yote huteleza' i wont bother translating. Ghana is going through.

Bro we FIRMLY established this already 😂😂😂

In reply to @DaleJohnsonESPN
Only thing would say is are we saying hypothetically if he was on the goal line and it hit his hand in identical fashion a pen wouldn't be given?

From today’s match I realised that not all referees are intelligent enough to know all fifa rules off-head.👍🏾

Portugal and Ojoro 🤝

Another Peter Walton masterclass I see

Well 🤷‍♂️

In reply to @DaleJohnsonESPN
they need that playing through on the monitors they watch the latest incident on.

It’s a pen in my book

I am absolutely shocked the referees do not know their own laws

Segundo penal que le regalan a ese equipo horrible

Dear god. Portugal benefitting from officiating you say???? Well I for one am SHOCKED

In reply to @wwfcscott
Imagine thinking its a penalty, their own rule states that it should not be given.

In reply to @orhunt
oh so it’s not and they’re not, cool twitter.com/dalejohnsonesp…

In reply to @DaleJohnsonESPN
Peter Walton said that law was removed 12 months ago.

You forgot the disclaimer at the bottom where it’s a pen if it involves Ronaldo’s Portugal

In reply to @DaleJohnsonESPN
Thats from a cross tho Bruno’s was from a dribble. Also, Gimenez’ hand was floating and not supporting him (yet)

Es que ni con VAR hacen buen trabajo los arbitros.

Even DALE disagrees with the decision..

Ref had no balls to say no to VAR! Very harsh

🤣🤣🤣

Officials have it rough but they really don't help themselves sometimes....

How is he supposed to fall then . Poor refereeing #PortugalvsUruguay

Didnt Walton just say they removed that about a year ago?

It's so poor that these decisions are made by onfield referees, but when there's multiple people seeing it again, over and over on a montor and still get it wrong you wonder what's the point in it all #VAR

The God of VAR has spoken.

In reply to @TomCaldwell_
But this also says otherwise? Stupid. I think things like that should be a penalty, in my opinion.

Even the refs don't know the rules ffsss

In reply to @DaleJohnsonESPN
post the image of you crying, Dale

Well this is awkward…..

How can so many officials get it wrong!?

Daz what I saying...that could neverrrrr be a penalty

Not a penalty but it's funny Ronaldo wasn't on to convert.

Peter Walton looking like a right cunt as per
