Chinese social media users report Huawei phones automatically deleting* videos of the protests that took place in China, without notifying the owners.

*Not sure if it’s from the cloud or device level

Our sci-fi movies have not even imagined this level of dystopia…

Americans, don’t forget that our own Department of Homeland Security declared a kind of “terrorism” it calls “Malformation”: true things that cause distrust in government. They may not be disappearing videos from our phones, yet. But they’ll get there if we let them.
Jinak gratuluji všem, kdo si tuhle štěnici přes opakovaná varování nasadili do kožichu.
Tohle je vynikajici. Telefony Huawei podle techto informaci z Ciny automaticky mazou videa z tamnich protivladnich protestu.

Kdo ma Huawei a je rad?
George Orwell lacked the creativity of modern censors
En god anledning att undvika Huawei.

This is why it would be a massive game changer if @elonmusk went into phones. No more of the bullshit Spyware, you basically don’t have a choice
More evidence of #Huawei’s direct complicity in repression in #China as its phones spontaneously deleted owners videos of protests without their permission. This type of feature alone demands Huawei should be banned by every democracy? #ChinaProtests @ZhouFengSuo @changchengwai

Well, are we surprised, they are Communists doing commie things.

Those in power have technology at their disposal that most people don't even know exists yet. Not only in China either.
Recent efforts by the FCC to ban Huawei equipment from the US will pay dividends for decades.

Over the past 5 years policymakers like @AjitPai and @BrendanCarrFCC had the foresight to lead the way on this endeavor.

I read yesterday that 1.3% of China's GDP (and 7% of public revenue) now comes from COVID testing. How much comes from the censorship apparatus? The Communist Party is shackled by the fruits of capitalism.
Movies haven’t imagined this but novels have. Although it was not this exact scenerio, Ghost Fleet (@peterwsinger and August Cole), imagined compromised chips in a future war.

Welp, … now the reasoning for the ban by Trump and Biden becomes undeniable.

Maybe they've got an AI Winston Smith working over there. Who knows, maybe they're even removing photos of people that have become un-persons, as they would say. Stalin did it too. pic.twitter.com/s31U5byXLQ

Pretty concerned about the people in China. I fear the CCP will crack down on them in the worst possible way and "delete" them as well, if it is not already happening. I'm also stunned by the apathy of these events considering what is unfolding is not "just" protest but ...
Big Brother deleting history!
This gives me chill bumps of horror. Wow.

The software to delete it is automatically uploaded
Which is why we are kicking Huawei out of our country. twitter.com/MsMelChen/stat…
Hablame de free speech :)

You know I thought "so exaggerating" when the US declared Huawei and others a danger to national security... Makes you wonder about other "capabilities". Seems they were right
Gentle reminder: apple wanted effectively the same capability in a "privacy preserving way": macrumors.com/2021/08/18/app…

We really need digital sovereignty.

Wow this is minority report meet Orwell kinda stuff.

Soon, your phone will auto-change your identity. You check the profile page, it's your picture, but not your name. The videos are of you with people you've never met. Even wedding pics of a spouse you can't recall.

This has happened when Manchester United visited the white house. Rio Ferdinand took pictures of the white house that were deleted from his phone directly before he could post them. Check his Instagram year he was in Manchester united & visited white house
Nobody should be surprised by this.
What well what does that tell you about the manufacturer of any product and technology that comes out of China? Wake-up America

I've been bombarded with Huawei ads on Twitter for the last two weeks. This is new.
In reply to @MsMelChen
Does anyone know more about it?
In reply to @GunnyJ
seeing these two things next to eachother in my feed is funny
Phones manufactured in China all have a back door that allows this. Especially if the device is locked from being rooted. ZTE is one such brand that has the ability to be "hacked" by US government under partnership with China.

Imagine the control they have over elections.
The Achilles heel of the pervasive digital surveillance superstate is that it ends up putting too much power in the hands of network admins.

Once they realize their power - they (the network admins), and not the political leadership, will rule China.
In reply to @MsMelChen
ahah imagine if they controlled large parts of cell infrastructure here...... shit.

Look what the US economy has become because of trying to ruin China, how many people have lost their jobs, and have you thought about the people down there?
In reply to @MsMelChen
Most of Americans stand with you
Well apple just added that thing where it can now look (“without looking”) at your photos in your phone. And (ifNotMistaked) it always had the policy it could look into whatever on icloud. We’re just lagging behind. BUT WE CAN STOP IT

Maybe the new Twitter health - misinformation policy is targeting the absurdity of the fear-based outdated bio-medical model- health policy. This reality orientation can lead to growth in tyranny, control, poverty, division, conflicts, and the destruction of diversity pic.twitter.com/kzPTZ8Fgdc
