Execs saying “wheres our Abbott elementary” what youre really looking for are Black/poc creators given the freedom to create something so authentically in their voice instead of the usual suspects you default to. You cant recreate Abbott. You can stop seeing different as a risk

After watching the first episode of this incredible show, I said to a friend of mine "people will binge watch this show on repeat like Schitt's Creek and The Office". Destined to be one of the greats ❤️

Very similar to the post GET OUT wave of films that attempted to recapture the specific energy of it, rather than just giving other Black creators the same freedom Peele had.

Execs will really ask for the formula for making something non-formulaic

And they have to have some tolerance for risk. Things might fail. That doesn’t mean you don’t try that kind of thing again.

LET ME MAKE NERD SHIZZ PLEASE

Exactly. We STAY trying to create you fresh stuff. But ever since Hollywood went corporate you want everything in a formula you know works.

That show was born of the fringes. It took risk & talent.

Sure. But most of TV is hackery and if a show is successful they are going to want all sorts of spin-offs whether the original show runner handles the spin-offs or not. I would just hope the original creator gets well paid money from the inevitable Abbott extended universe.

I liked it but I wish it was a little less docu style. I couldn’t get really into the whole story. Love the actors, characters etc. but wasn’t able to space out into the story for as long. Would love to see more black/POC content it so much fresher & interesting

It’s so refreshing and unforced, and this must be why. You’re spot on..

They want the success but shuts down every creative pilot but greenlights anything that sounds like a cheap Twitter topic. Abbot is just being simple and letting black people being black without sounding like a bunch of idiots being a Tyler Perry clone

I'm still wondering if I'll be alive long enough for Hollywood to just give Black directors $200 million dollars for a movie for no reason like most other movies in Hollywood.

💯on the money as usual

Just give us the room to flex a lil.

lol are the rich executives saying they want a show that's about them? What, Succession isn't good enough? What about every single other show that's about rich white people being assholes?

In reply to @msdanifernandez
Yep, and I have two. Execs holla!

Didn’t they release abbot alongside another show? One about being an executive of a car company?

The ground breaking formula that isn't that ground breaking... And pretty obvious... Maybe not...

LOUDER SCREAM IT TO THE HIGH RISES

This👇. And, overall, “QUIT SEEING DIFFERENT AS A RISK!” Embrace new voices, POVs, storylines, creators, etc. Quit homogenizing everything or remaking shit. Take a chance. Break the mold. Lift new voices. Let the cream rise to the top rather than drown it. Originality matters.

A Fantasy story that isn’t led by the usual folk would easily top GoT

Anytime a Black American has success in Hollywood Non Black POC try to ride the coattails by including themselves. This is Black American success and that's it. Y'all did the same thing w/ Empire and Black Panther. Y'all never reciprocate, you just use and take.
