I just don’t understand how someone making $174,000 a year and being driven around in a damn suv everywhere can go in and vote against only 7 days of paid SICK LEAVE for railroad workers.

I’m so fucking glad you’re in Congress

Here’s the map the @GOP and the @NRA don’t want you to see.

We met up with the first Gen Z congressman, @MaxwellFrostFL, as he picked out his congressional office.

Parts of our conversation on his rise, bipartisanship, gun violence, and more to come. pic.twitter.com/r1WTqzzBjT

My son made it through the pandemic just fine. Know what he didn’t make it through? Fourth grade, because ignorant fucks like you choose to address a real issue that is the number one killer of children.

I just want to make a few things clear:

The Holocaust happened.

Hitler was a demonic figure.

And instead of giving it a platform, our political leaders should be calling out and rejecting antisemitism wherever it hides.

Silence is complicity.

Office selection time!! It’s literally a lottery and each person will have a certain amount of time to pick their office. Freshmen get last pick so you really want to get a low number.

I have been learning a lot about wound ballistics this week. What bullets do to the human body is obviously disturbing but learning what common ammunition used in assault rifles like the AR-15 using .223 or 5.56s cartridges do to the human body, especially a child is horrifying.

If railroad work is so important that the United States Congress can vote to prevent a strike, then railroad WORKERS should be important enough to have 7 days of paid sick leave.

The interview of Kanye with Alex Jones is so insanely antisemitic that he makes Alex Jones uncomfortable. There has been a deeply disturbing rise in anti-semitism that must be condemned at every level. Anti-semitism, racism and hatred are not mental illnesses. There is no excuse.

I'm in the middle of studying for finals but just heard about that interview and saw it and felt like I had to say something. Something has got to be done more substantially to fight anti-semitism in our country.

I wanted to title it one word but I couldn't think of one that properly describes a situation where somethings greatest strength is its greatest weakness so I named it after the robot in the incredibles- Omnidroid. Let me explain- pic.twitter.com/8xRDDgsgwj

In the incredibles the only thing that can destroy the Omnidroid is itself. That's how Mr. Incredible et al defeat it. So its greatest strength (its programing and AI) is it's greatest weakness. I know its a funny name but I am excited for you all to read this paper.

For one of my final papers I am writing about how in my view- the greatest strength of movements is the trauma that motivates and bonds the participants but also how that trauma is the greatest weakness.

I don't agree with David on a ton including a ton of gun policy.

But I will always give credit where it's due even if I don't agree always. He has compiled a list of very valid issues and stats here.

I understand what Republicans mean when they say that we need to just enforce the gun laws better that we already have. But I find it hard to believe they truly feel that way when hundreds of jurisdictions across the country simply refuse to enforce new gun laws.

Like Sen Murphy said
Opponents of new gun laws say we should just enforce the laws we have.

But many counties have declared themselves “2nd Amendment Sanctuaries”, where gun laws aren’t enforced.

On @CNN this morning I talked about the need for Congress to take action on this crisis.

We will never substantially reduce gun violence until our response to these shootings is to action and not debate. That will require Democrats, Republicans, gun owners and non-gun owners all demanding our leaders work together and find common ground to reduce gun violence.

Notice how none of the above are gun laws? It’s because while I see gun laws as part of the solution they are just that- part of the solution. We will never reduce gun violence if we don’t also address why someone picks up a gun in the first place.

I fear if done poorly in a nightmare situation- kids go to their school counselor and say they have anxiety or are depressed and then are treated like a potential mass shooter. That must be prevented.

I have one nonstarter- We have to stop acting like someone being mentally Ill automatically means they are going to kill people. As mentioned before being mentally ill makes you way more likely to hurt yourself than someone else.

A strong predictor of violence is also unemployment we need to fund the best programs working with communities most impacted by gun violence to help those most at risk to get them the resources they need to break the cycle of trauma, poverty and violence.

Hospital based violence intervention works by stopping retaliation by getting the loved ones of someone who was shot a therapist and trusted community leaders in the room to support the family and stop retaliation. read more here journals.lww.com/jtrauma/Citati…

Plus getting communities most impacted and traumatized by daily gun violence more mental health resources this could be done through federal block grants.

- Gun suicides are disproportionately impacting the Republican constituency. Most likely to die by suicide are gun owning, older men in rural areas.

Starting with suicide prev: Area for common ground #1 I think there is room to work together on getting the CDC and NIH more funding to study how to prevent gun suicide because it gets little research funding in comparison to things like sepsis that have similar death rates.
