If you live in one of these cities and don’t go see Joshua Ray Walker while he’s on tour with a full band then I’ll never forgive you.

The key to understanding this mystifying statement -- note to future historians -- is the expansive construction of the term "violence" invented by activists and then slipped into everyday journalistic discourse
Replying to @wesyang
Ditto "harm"

What are Joe Lieberman and Tipper Gore doing? They've got whole new ways to claim that speech is violence now.

C'mon, I thought you dunked on the condescension of Variety's mixed notice.

I feel like #Dune already came out, we saw it, we argued about it, and now it has begun to fade, without having left much of an impression. Which is surely unfair of me.

That's why you shouldn't read the trades.

Yes
The push for censorship of video games, movies, music, etc. was actually broader and more bipartisan in the 1990s than now, which makes the cowardice of the companies who bend to censorship pushes even more remarkable.

I wrote an article a few years back noting that 50% of top editors/reporters at NYT went to a small number of elite schools. I think this is one of the issues where if they had a more representative group of people working there they'd be more in touch with reality.

Who is the editorial voice describing here. Who thinks Netflix is inciting violence? Why did the company lose its glow?

NYT TV critic Mike Hale has now written that Squid Game is stupid, Succession is boring, and Chernobyl was contrived.

So, wrong about everything, but I do respect the guts to stand athwart the cultural taste of the modal NYT reader and scream "that sucks" over and over pic.twitter.com/1BCQ0sjtQi

Durn tootin'. Though I would say the modal (?) NYT reader prob'ly looks down its nose at Squid.

James Austin Johnson is the first good news I've heard about SNL since... hmmm... well, since Norm Macdonald was hired, actually.
Happy to see James Austin Johnson joining SNL, no doubt entirely thanks to this piece I wrote on why his Trump impersonation is the only one that matters

Rep. Matt Gaetz tweeted that Fox News host Tucker Carlson “is CORRECT about Replacement Theory.”

Replacement theory is a conspiracy pushed by White nationalists that White people are being “replaced” by migrants brought into the country. mediaite.com/a/ffqtm
Replying to @Mediaite
Gaetz's tweet was just another way to beg Carlson to book him on his show--Carlson hasn't had him on since The Accusations. Don't give Gaetz credit for having a sincere belief about *any* theory.

So the question is, does Piers cut into an hour of Fox & Friends, or do they slot him--as I predicted a while back--in the 7 pm spot?hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/pie…
Replying to @kentucker
Depending on the format of a show that has to air in US, UK & Australia will determine his Fox News time period. I'll still say 7 pm makes most sense.

In 2017, Norm MacDonald was tweet-musing about writing a "million-word novel" with "at least 200 major characters." No comedian has ever thought the way he did.

Got this just a few months ago, out of the blue. In 2015, Norm MacDonald dared me to live-tweet a review of his last appearance on Letterman--in other words, to create some performance-art at his instigation, so I did it. Norm was such a ceaselessly creative, kind, thoughtful man

My @nprfreshair review of Karen Black's music is airing today. Listen here:
Best known for her roles in films like 'Five Easy Pieces' and 'Easy Rider,' Karen Black, who died in 2013, also recorded music in the 1970s. A new album highlights some of her strongest work. @kentucker has a review: n.pr/390XinS pic.twitter.com/GPxwG4V7CI

Watched an episode of @thechaseabc just for the h of it and, hey, why not give @sarahaines a @Jeopardy tryout? She reads clues crisply & ad libs amusingly w contestants. I can think of many J! auditioners who did far less.

'Tis a bit ironic, to be sure, that Davies is coming into @Jeopardy given Trebek's disdain for the ostentatious Who Wants to be a Millionaire, US-developed by Davies.

Davies may have too much of a predilection for flash to be good for @Jeopardy for any length of time, but for sure he's better for the interim.
Michael Davies is a great producer who has done a bunch of great shows (Millionaire, 2 Minute Drill, Smush, Power of 10, Grand Slam...the list goes on) so I'm very excited he's taking over for now.

Boy, would Perelman have written a great parody of Gopnik prose.
“It is not his disgust but his defensive reaction, his spinning webs of silk to weave around the caught objects of his pursuit, that still delights,” @adamgopnik writes, of the enduring appeal of the longtime New Yorker satirist S.J. Perelman. nyer.cm/5lzwI34
