Worse still, this report lifts the lid on the lack of respect, care or response to far too many tenants. Measures to give them greater voice and improve standards are long overdue.

Safe and secure housing is a fundamental human right. This report must be the wake up call that propels this to the top of the political agenda. It is incumbent on Govt and all housing providers across every sector to ensure a tragedy like the death of Awaab never happens again.

Nobody should have to live in a mouldy and damp home, but this is the shocking reality for far too many people across our country.

The circumstances around Awaab Ishak’s death were unconscionable. Today’s report lays bare a culture that repeatedly failed him and his family with the most devastating consequences.

The pattern is all too familiar - big promises are made, the delivery falls well short, and the government just hopes nobody notices.

This is no way to run a country. We deserve so much better 🌹

'This is a chance for the Scottish people to turn things around.'

@lisanandy believes with Keir Starmer as the leader of the Labour Party Scots can ‘rid themselves’ of Westminster Tories and bolster unionism.

The Tories made a series of promises at the last election and they are utterly failing to deliver. From scrapping Northern Powerhouse Rail and local bus services to today’s news on the Levelling Up Fund, there has been a consistent record of broken promises and failed delivery. pic.twitter.com/OcPGmnQWnX

They can get their act together when it comes to the 1%. But when it comes to investment in our town centres, high streets, local transport, decent housing, or in delivering just a single one of their levelling up missions, why is it that the rest of us always just have to wait?

With the Budget’s tax cut for the wealthiest, the government has spent three times more on the richest 1% than they’ve managed to spend on the whole of the North of England through their flagship ‘levelling up’ project. Doesn’t this just sum this government up?

The Levelling Up Fund was launched in November 2020, which means they have only delivered 8% of it in almost two-and-a-half years. Many of the projects that have been promised to local communities are a *long* way from being delivered. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politi…

Labour has been doing some digging into the Levelling Up Fund, the government’s flagship programme to deliver on its central election promise.

This is what we’ve found, and it’s not very encouraging…

One person in the SNP got a new job today, what about the 7000 council workers in Scotland who could lose theirs due to SNP cuts.

Both SNP & Tory Governments cut jobs and funds to councils - the Sec of State couldn’t tell me the difference🤷🏻‍♀️

Two sides of the same coin.

Govt antisocial behaviour plans are too weak, too little, too late.

In 13yrs Tories have decimated neighbourhood policing - 10,000 fewer neighbourhood police & PCSOs today than 7yrs ago.

No plan works without neighbourhood police & PCSOs, Labour will put 13,000 more on streets

After 13 years in office, when you’ve taken police off our streets, children as young as 9 are being exploited by criminal drugs gangs and communities are dealing with 3000 incidents of anti-social behaviour a day, talking about a “crackdown” on ASB is entirely unconvincing.

*to halve violence against women & girls
*to restore confidence in police
*to reverse the collapse in crimes solved

The next Labour government will halve serious violent crime, raise confidence in the police, and tackle violence against women and girls.

As @Keir_Starmer set out today, @UKLabour will make Britain’s streets safe 🌹

The end of Section 21 no-fault evictions is long overdue.

The government promised to ban them 4️⃣ years ago. Since then almost 53,000 households have been threatened with homelessness.

How many more will be similarly threatened between now and autumn? We cannot afford more delay
Today I moderated a discussion with the new housing minister @redditchrachel & @RentersReformCo🏡 the minister said we will see the end of no fault Section 21 evictions by the autumn🏡 she also said that it is wrong that there is intergenerational inequality in homeownership🏡 pic.twitter.com/S1mxnfIeeB

This week’s Budget should have been a game-changer. But less than 10% of people are covered by the devolution deals announced by the Chancellor.
