@MartySilkHack huge covid testing ques on GC this arvo. Many sites stopped at 2 pm despite long ques. Robina hospital telling those prepared to wait , results will take 3 days! Appears the government not prepared … and that’s just SA visitors….

Don't think the testing queues are related to the three local cases on the Gold Coast?

Jokes aside I was super-impressed today by D’ath & Aitken Do you know when new CHO starts? I like Aitken
Replying to @profsarahj
"Mid-December" - I was disappointed they didn't give Aitken a crack. He's come across as a fairly lucid covid realist at pressers.

I’m worried about not getting back. Seeing that Queensland was quick to shut to SA today has me a bit concerned. But at the same time, a lot of the messaging about borders re-opening is positive! Just trying to be conscious of work when I come back!

Not sure about Gutwein's risk appetite but you're only 7 days off 90%

Looking forward to the borders opening and Australia being one country again, where we occasionally visit family interstate but generally think other states are weird and only travel overseas

Made the tough decision today to cancel my next trip home to #Queensland. It’s the second time this year uncertainty around #COVID19 border restrictions has halted my plans. It sucks, a lot, but it’s the world we now live in sadly. Now, back to your Saturday activities!

Queensland is open to Tasmania, or are you worried about getting back to Tassie once Qld's borders start opening next week?

In reply to @MartySilkHack
When are we going to be hitting 90%?? I want to come home to qld from overseas. I cannot afford quarantine, nor two weeks. I cannot quarantine at home, as our house is an apartment and more than two hours from the airport. When can Aus citizens come home!!!!????

The end point of contact tracing in Australia is apparently concentration camps for casual contacts of covid patients, w/no due process for the interred.

Choose: a liberal democracy or a bio-security state focused on covid control.

Queensland Health Minister Yvette D'Ath on the state borders opening once vaccination coverage hits 80%

"We're going to be open to NSW and Victoria in a matter of days. Omicron and Delta is going to come into this state, there's no question about that, it's just how quickly."

In reply to @MartySilkHack
Ms D'ath asked if she thinks there will be a time when daily covid pressers no longer happen. "I dunno, will you let us."
Replying to @MartySilkHack
The health minister defended the Adelaide border closure which will only last days. She said when the border reopens, Adelaide residents will need to be fully vaccinated and PCR test negative. "There is greater restrictions, why? so we can try to slow that transmission."

Dr Aitken said getting the jab is important because it will stop people getting severe covid symptoms. "Vaccination may not necessarily stop people getting COVID, but that's not what the vaccination is designed to do."

South African data on Omicron covid variant:

- It has some immune evasion in people who have had covid before

- Vaccine immunity likely to offer more protection but how much is unclear

- Hospitalisations are rising but still no clear idea of severity
In reply to @jburnmurdoch
But a clear warning on that from data published earlier today: researchers in South Africa find that the risk of re-infection is much higher with Omicron than with past variants, suggesting some evasion of immunity from prior infection (no data on vax)

Facts on the new Omicron variant of covid:

- It shows some risk of immune evasion

- That would likely be higher for unvaccinated people, including those who've had covid before

- Hospitalisations are up too, but it's still too early to say it's more severe

To be able to live with that we will have to have regular boosters with a vaccine but also we have to ask can our current health system cope with everything we have dealt with up to now as well as multiple Covid infections. 11/12

SA hasn’t shut and I am predicting that it won’t. What I think it will do is put more cops on the border. And FFS can everyone stop preempting?
