The @UN would have completely lost credibility, if it had allowed a terrorist group to replace the representative of a democratically elected government, which the UN watched collapse under the relentless aggression of Pakistan by proxy in gross violation of the UN Charter.
By a resolution adopted by consensus, the #UNGA has deferred decision on who will represent #Afghanistan and #Myanmar.

Use active voice, @amnesty, to report accurately "who" has taken away Afghans' human rights overnight. Name the governments that allowed this catastrophe to take place. Consult with your Afghan staff like @HuriaSamira who can tell you all this to report properly. @amnestysasia
At a time when Afghans have had a spectrum of rights taken away from them overnight, here is a look at how much Afghan women have achieved over the last 20 years despite instability & conflict.

81 days of gender apartheid under misogynistic Taliban. Girls banned from education and women from participation in the Afghan polity, society and economy. This condemns Afghanistan to perpetual poverty and a widening humanitarian crisis.

Very proud of all these Afghan women recognized by the @BBCWorld this year. They are among the world’s top 100, relentlessly striving to defend their equal human rights under Afghanistan’s Constitution, on which Taliban trampled in mid August. But #AfghanWomen won't give up!
The BBC's revealed its list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2021.

We thank BBC for recognizing a large number of courageous, committed, and accomplished Afghan women. Take a look at their profiles:

Thanks @Malala for adding your voice to those of countless Afghan girls, who've been let down, as they demand the restoration of their basic human rights under Afghanistan’s Constitution. As a victim of state-sponsored extremism, you uniquely feel and share the pain of Afghans.
Today I met @Malala, whose story and voice have encouraged women and girls everywhere to stand boldly in their strength and purpose. We discussed the role of girls’ education and how investing in women and girls creates a brighter future. Thank you, Malala, for all that you do. pic.twitter.com/9wmcUaj9XX

These Afghan women recognized by @BBCWorld is only the tip of the iceberg and sadly a reminder of how much these and other women have lost, thanks to the closssal betrayal of democracy, human and women’s rights. August 15th could've been averted. @FLOTUS

Taliban carried out 2,000 IED or anti-personnel mine attacks in 2020-2021, killing over 2,000 innocents and wounding another 4,000. 72% of the victims were children. Both the training and explosives came from Pakistan.

This is what @realZalmayMK never talks about. @SIGARHQ can!

I feel proud to have Mr. Haidary in our country’s foreign affairs as a brave, wise & pro-active senior official. More power to him. While some-others r driven by their greed to steal more under different names be it “ wall “ or other things & they signal green light to darkness.

Read our Press Statement on the Decree by the Taliban's Leader on "Women’s Rights" in Afghanistan.

The Constitution of Afghanistan -- underpinned by Islam, Afghan culture and our international obligations -- is the only legitimate guide on the equal human and women's rights.

Thanks @AmbHugoLL for speaking up. Your confession of "We betrayed the Afghan people" and our developing democracy helps reject misstatements by @realZalmayMK --the hitman used by both administrations--to systematically undermine and kill our hard-won gains in favor of Taliban.

Good to see @UN cautiously admit the closssal betrayal of democracy and human rights in Afghanistan by the very champions of these values -- which Afghans had naturally embraced. But @antonioguterres himself kept quiet on this for months before the preventable collapse.
According to #UnitedNations, the “de facto” Taliban govt is a disappointment for any who hoped or advocated for inclusivity. There were “no non-Taliban members, no figures from the past government, nor leaders of minority groups”

We are proud of Mr.Ambassador @MAshrafHaidari for doing such great work for needy people who are suffering from no food and required packages. Many people lost their hopes and beliefs in case of unexpected situations.

As a former IDP and refugee, I greatly appreciate the relentless advocacy by @Pontifex on behalf of #refugees and migrants. They are forced to leave their places of origin by a mix of protective and human insecurity. We know this from Afghanistan’s widening humanitarian crisis.
Migrant sisters and brothers, I am here on Lesvos to say I am near you, to look into your eyes full of fear and expectancy, eyes that have seen violence and poverty, eyes streaked by too many tears. Magration is a humanitarian crisis that concerns everyone. #ApostolicJourney

Rest in peace, #Madiba!

There is ongoing fear, conflict, and despair in Afghanistan, but we'll see it all through!

Taliban group and their state-sponsor should see this fact: as a progressive Muslim country, Turkey was ahead of Europe in first granting women the right to vote and be elected in 1934. Follow the path of Turkey and stop further ruining the image of Islam, which liberated women!
87 years ago today, on 5 December 1934, Turkish women received the right to vote & be elected. Well before many women in Europe. Here are the first 17 women deputies elected to the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

The late #PriyanthaKumara is a victim of violent extremism and terrorism -- Pakistani threats exported to Afghanistan for the past 20 years.

Afghans as victims of these threats join me in condemning in the strongest terms possible this heinous crime against an innocent.

Humanitarian crisis in #Afghanistan partly stems from the same draconian policies pursued by #Taliban in 1990s. It's hard to imagine how it could end, if Afghan women are banned from participation in polity, society & economy, argues Amb. @MAshrafHaidari. or-f.org/96507

The problem is "primacy" since it is a lose-win strategy that often leads to lose-lose outcomes. Freedom of navigation for win-win cooperation against confrontation must underpin Quad's approach to ensuring maritime security. China et al must reciprocate. #indianoceanconference
