Wow! That could have been a car, pedestrian of cyclist.

Exactly. Or a worker.
PSA: Barricades are put up for a reason. Don't drive around - or through - them. This driver was cited for distracted driving. Please pay attention, especially in and around work zones.

If you're on 2nd Street in Marietta, you might notice some new signage 👀 Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFB) can reduce pedestrian crashes by 47 percent. They're helpful in locations like this, where multiple lanes of traffic create challenges for pedestrians.

@ODOT_NorthCenOH Why did the Baumhart Road sign (exit 135) on the Turnpike have a white background with green letters all those years (the only one I've seen like that!) and why was it changed to the normal green background w/white lettering?
You’d have to ask @OhioTurnpike about things on the Turnpike. ODOT doesn’t manage or maintain the Turnpike.

The majority of drivers agree on distracted driving being extremely dangerous, yet over a third of them do it anyway.

Please always put distractions away when driving, and put your full attention on the road. Your safety, and the safety of those around you depend on it!
A big loss for Chelsea and our family. Pop John was an amazing guy. I will certainly miss our talks about current events, @700wlw, and baseball.…

At least I know there is one brain with working cells over at ODOT now. I’ll be sure to update any future tweets lol
In reply to @mbruning81
That’s fair lol. I guess you can’t expect to know when the next truck won’t know what a height limit is. Thanks for the information and for a first positive interaction with ODOT lol. No orange cones in sight.
Any time. I try to help folks understand, where possible, with all my collective brain cells. 😉
In reply to @mbruning81
That’s understandable and I want them to do the work. what’s the expected lifespan of these projects? Once they are complete in 2025/2030 how long can we expect a construction free expressway on 75?
Funding will dictate some of those future phase timelines. Once you build a roadway, there's always maintenance to do. Pavement, bridges, guardrail, lights - none of it is like wine. HAHA
In reply to @mbruning81
That's very true, someone should tell that to the Cincinnati Police Department 😁 I appreciate your willingness to have a conversation, just goes to show that you are great at what you do, thank you!
Thanks! Always happy to answer questions or point you in the right direction to find an answer.
In reply to @mbruning81
There’s certainly no good time. Maybe you can explain something I’ve always wondered, why does I-75 construction never finish? Why doesn’t ODOT expand lanes for future traffic so we don’t need to keep redoing everything after a few years? Or is it more of a west and tear thing?
The two mega projects right now, I-75 Thru the Valley (…) and I-75 Mill Creek Expressway (…) are full re-builds of the interstate. That work is also being done while simultaneously keeping traffic moving, which makes it take longer.
In reply to @mbruning81
I understand having things already scheduled but perhaps if you know you have multiple projects ongoing (as all of these were) push the closure for one or two of them to a different time (not all at 10pm) to allow the influx of traffic to pass.
I appreciate the feedback, but let's also recognize there is no "good" time to close a major interstate. Ever. Even overnight closures impact lots of folks.
In reply to @mbruning81
@mbruning81 @ODOT_Statewide why is the first "entrance closed" sign at Broadway to 480 ON THE ON RAMP?????? Why isn't every sign from Lee to Broadway covered with "entrance closed" and "detour" signs????
In reply to @mbruning81
Appreciate the information, although nothing in there explains why they decided to close a major highway during the day and not only at night. Or why no one could look at a calendar to see that Saturday was a major event day in Cincinnati.
The bridge was damaged when it was hit by a truck, so it wasn't something planned well in advance. Fortunately, the repair could at least wait until the weekend when traffic volume is lower and we could give folks a heads up. There's no "good" time to close a major interstate.
So @ODOT_Cincinnati decided to close northbound I-71 at the Brent Spence Bridge and divert traffic to northbound I-75,at the same time close 3 lanes of northbound I-75 at Hopple Street, when people are heading out of town the week before the Fourth of July holiday #CincyTraffic
If only the oversized truck that hit the bridge on I-71 had been aware of that planned work on I-75 this could have all been avoided. HAHA

Bridge work to shut down section of I-71
In reply to @ODOT_Cincinnati
@ODOT_Cincinnati why the fuck did you close 71 on a Saturday and Sunday. Literally I don’t think there is one brain cell collectively between the entirety of ODOT.

Great night at the @ChilliPaints game tonight for "Drive Sober Night" by @DriveSafeRoss. It was Max's first game. Told him how I met his mom here in 1999. Highly encourage anyone who loves baseball to come to a game. Missed @Tim_Reiter though. #RollPaints

Listening back, I think Marchbanks was referring to the loss of federal dollars for ODOT projects at $375 million
Replying to @JoshCroup
Correct. ODOT would lose $375 million in federal gas tax. It would be $355 million in state gas tax. Total of $730 million if both were suspended.
Ok. That's funny. 🤣 Not true. But funny.
So hot I saw ODOT sitting down

Thank you for fighting for pollinators! I’m begging the @ODOT_Statewide and the @USDOT to stop mowing millions of acres of federal and state highway medians…a waste of millions of gallons of gas and diesel and destruction of pollinator habitats!

Hey @mbruning81 did you see about how posting death tolls on DOT signs actually increased traffic fatalities? There was an FHA memo saying it is inappropriate to use electronic highway signs to display death tolls. Interesting stuff. 🤔 @ODOT_Fakewide
Replying to @marknoble @ODOT_Statewide and 1 otherfalse
I saw how ONE study came to some conclusions about posting the fatality number. I've also read a couple that have a different conclusion. Good thing we don't post the number, I guess.
