Bayard Rustin was a key player in the success of the 1963 March on Washington. Due to Rustin's sexuality, he is often left out of the historical narrative. Today, take some time to learn more about his work to create the #BelovedCommunity. history.com/news/bayard-ru…

Activism requires preparation. It is so critical to know that a lot of the activists and the demonstrators that you saw during the civil rights movements were trained. This work is not easy and we must prepare ourselves to go the distance in the fight for justice.

Remember the power that resides within each of us. Remember the power that we can embrace the vision that another world is possible, we can dare to hope again, and unleash our passion to be part of the solution, not the problem. #EndGunViolence

Yolanda Renee's generation has been forced to hide under desks and fear for their lives due to gun violence in our nation. It is important that we listen and hear their calls for change.

Jan 6th saw a physical attack on our democracy. When that failed, we witnessed a structural attack on democracy with over 25 states rolling back both the right to vote and protections of free and fair elections.

Without #votingrights for all, there is democracy for none.

"Tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there "is" such a thing as being too late. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action." - #MLK

They are exactly right - the fight for gun rights legislation is a marathon and not a sprint. We stand on the shoulders of giants that have fought for legislation for years & we will continue the fight.

Change is not based in one person or one family. So I ask you today, what is your path to making Dr. King's Dream of a Beloved Community a reality?

Happy Father’s Day to a truly magnificent man of valor! As a father you give you so much to Yolanda and your greatest gift of all is your Presence. Seeing you with her and how you guide, love and protect her is truly awe inspiring.

So many young people came out to demand change at #MarchForOurLives. With their passion and determination, I know our future is in good hands.

My time with Dad was cut too short but I will always cherish our joyous memories together. Now, as a father to Yolanda Renee, I could not be more blessed. Being a father is one of the greatest gifts life could have given to me. Happy #FathersDay, Dad, and to all fathers!

Yesterday was Mom and Dad's anniversary. Their love taught me so much and inspires my love for my family each and every day.

In my heart, I know that they are both together and at peace now and that makes me eternally happy.

Today in 2015, nine lives were lost to white supremacy, hatred and & violence. One of the most violent masses shootings occurred in one of the oldest Black places of worship.

Since then, white supremacy has killed countless others, including those we lost in Buffalo.

The @DrumMajorInst is a hub for sharing information & strategy to continue pushing for the eradication of the triple evils of poverty, racism, and violence.

How are you working to build the #BelovedCommunity, absent of poverty, hunger, and hate for your generation and beyond?

Gun violence has always been a serious issue in this country. Our elected officials have a responsibility to protect the people they serve. We can't stop the pressure until federal gun legislation is secured. #EndGunViolence

Midterms are quickly approaching and it is clear that we need to elect more leaders to support gun reform in Congress. We must vote like our lives depend on it - because they do.

Our lives matter. We must not become complacent.

Glad you're feeling better, friend!

Part of Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy is working to eradicate economic inequality. His last speech was in support of striking sanitation workers. Let's never forget that on this journey of pursuing justice, that includes fair wages and benefits so all people can prosper.

"We're going to keep on fighting until we get to our ultimate goal." -Yolanda Renee King

In the midst of trying to create change, hopelessness can creep up when it feels like there's no chance for progress. It's important to celebrate the small wins to keep us going.

"Non-violence is a permanent attitude we bring to the breakfast table and bring to bed at night." - Coretta Scott King

This is exactly true. Even though I was a young child, mom and dad took care to instill those ideals in me. I am grateful for that.

There is absolutely no valid reason for anyone in this country to own and operate an AR-15. It is essential that we value human lives over guns and machinery.

Together we can #EndGunViolence.
Educators and activists everywhere are committed to ending gun violence. Today @OfficialMLK3 connected with NEA members who survived the shooting at Columbine High School. Our movement is large and it is powerful—and together we can #EndGunViolence. pic.twitter.com/MQLQ2qq9lk

We gathered last weekend to show lawmakers that we won't give up when it comes to protecting our communities from gun violence. People of all ages joined hands to shout "enough is enough."

Grieving does not end when the news cycle moves on. Today we remember the lives lost during the Pulse Nightclub shooting in 2016. Hate crimes are a real issue in this nation that we must address with principles of love and nonviolence.

On this day in 2016, America lost 49 people to hatred and homophobia in the Pulse Nightclub shooting. It is now 2022 and we are still fighting for gun reform that could prevent heinous acts like this.

Enough is Enough.

Four years ago, Yolanda Renee took the stage to say #EnoughisEnough on gun violence. This weekend, she and her peers are rallying again. Our children and our communities can no longer live in fear of the next mass shooting. We won't let up until action is made. @AMarch4OurLives

Enough was enough in 2018 and enough is enough in 2022. We must stop gun violence now. #MarchForOurLives

Our “leaders” care more about getting elected than the lives of children. It’s time to change that.

Today we will march in Washington, D.C. to demand federal action against gun violence NOW.

"Give us the ballot, and we will no longer have to worry the federal government about our basic rights." - Martin Luther King Jr.

We will get there one day soon, dad. I see the brighter tomorrow just love the horizon. #votingrights

When the Supreme Court officially strikes down Roe v. Wade this summer, our outrage will be warranted. After the dust settles and we process our fear and disappointment we must reengage.

Midterm elections are our opportunity to have a fighting chance in the years to come.

Enough is Enough. Tomorrow, people of all ages from around the country will come together to make sure our voices are heard - end gun violence now!

Enough is enough. Congress must act to put a stop to America’s endless cycle of gun violence.

This Saturday, June 11, my family will march once again in D.C. for all of our lives and safety. #MarchForOurLives

Happy #PrideMonth! The LGBTQ+ community is undoubtedly committed to changing society from the inside out.

Dad dreamt of a Beloved Community where people of all backgrounds were treated equally by society and it is our duty to ensure no group is left out of that dream.
