I know there’s other stuff going on but I still have plenty of space in my heart to be angry that the @RedCross doesn’t allow men who have sex with men to donate blood. That is some total bullshit.

We agree that blood donation eligibility shouldn’t be determined by sexual orientation and are working to achieve this goal. The FDA reduced its deferral period from 12 to 3 mos. which is an important step to a more equitable donation process. Learn more: RedCrossBlood.org/LGBTQ

@RedCross where can I find the complete list of blood donation eligibility requirements and disqualifying circumstances?
Replying to @HeadFungus
Hi there, please check out our eligibility guidelines for assistance at rcblood.org/eligibility. If the answer to your question is not on the website, please contact our blood donor support center at 1-866-236-3276 and select option #3 for “eligibility.”

This is simply untrue. The American Red Cross has built so much more than 6 homes in Haiti, and we’ve accounted for every donated dollar spent. For a financial breakdown of our earthquake spending, as well as stories of those we have helped, please visit redcross.org/haiti.

A big shout out to local crafters in Puerto Rico. Thanks to your handiwork sewing face coverings, @CruzRojaPR donated these coverings to the Blinded Veterans Association Puerto Rico & US Virgin Island Region. Help service members and vets in your area: rdcrss.org/328Z5VF

I gave blood today at a @RedCross drive. Their documentation before making an appt clearly states that masks will be required, but unfortunately this was not enforced. After I checked in, a maskless gentleman arrived to check in. He was not told to wear a mask (1/x)

@RedCross I didn't raise a fuss this morning, but some of your policies, as usual, are pedantic. I had a morning appointment, so took a big swig of my coffee before walking in. My temp was 99.8. When I asked to wait 5 minutes and try again, after explaining that, they refused.

We are sorry to learn of this experience and apologize. During this pandemic we have been presented with unique challenges such as needing to adjust operations to support safety precautions. We truly appreciate your patience and support in this rapidly changing environment.

I donated but to my knowledge no Covid-19 testing done
Replying to @KathyHobson7
Hi Kathy, all donations made after June 15th are being tested for Covid-19 antibodies. Red Cross donors can expect to receive the results of their antibody test within 7-10 days through our Red Cross Blood Donor App or on our donor portal at RedCrossBlood.org.

Due to #COVID19, U.S. sailors in Djibouti have not been able to go on land and shop. This has been especially hard on female sailors. When the Red Cross found out, we teamed up with a donor to help deliver much-needed personal care and hygiene products.

Friendly reminder that the @RedCross has a blood shortage but still refuses to accept the blood of thousands of healthy gay men due to a discriminatory 40 year old rule.

Hey @RedCross Maryland Timonium office. What’s the point of having an appt if we still have to wait an hr past our appointment. Perhaps you should redo your schedule & take fewer appts. I made this 3 weeks ago too! & I have a rare 🩸 type!

Still SHOCKED that at the @RedCross Midtown Blood Donation Center in Atlanta, they tried to take my UNDER-TONGUE temperature in the lobby, with a woman donating MASKLESS 20 feet away. (The forehead therm was broken.) No "Masks Mandatory" sign. This O+ donor is GONE until 2021! 🤯

We encourage individuals to make appointments to help meet the urgent need for blood donations. Please do not feel discouraged if there is not an immediate appointment available – patients still need you.

Kind of hypocritical of the @RedCross to literally harass me by calling weekly to ask that I give blood, yet they won’t take walk-in donors. Do you need blood or not? Definitely don’t intend to give again, COVID or no COVID.

Replying to @TroyExplores
We encourage you to continue to look for another drive at RedCrossBlood.org/Give. And, even if you can't find an appointment immediately, please schedule for the coming weeks as it will help ensure we have blood throughout the pandemic. Thank you and take care!

Red Cross and #RedCrescent volunteers across the world are showing goodwill towards their communities. In Brazil, Jamaica and Qatar, this means getting food in the hands of those most vulnerable to #COVID19.

This is still a bigoted policy. Three months of abstinence to give you blood that you TEST ANYWAY is offensive and demeaning. Gay men are not dirty or more sick than anyone else but your policies tell me you seem to think otherwise.
Replying to @WaltDeWalt
We understand the hurt this policy has caused to many in the LGBTQ+ community. Although we are not able to unilaterally change this policy, we are actively working to achieve an inclusive environment that embraces diversity.

Oh cool, would you look at that! The @RedCross finding another way to exclude gay men during a pandemic.

Just read a story about donating blood plasma for #COVID19 . Turns out the @RedCross won’t take blood/plasma from a man who had sex with a man in the last 3 months. Women with women are cool though. Is it 1982?! What is this #stupid rule?! @CNN @foxnewsdesk @kcranews @KTLA

I will never trust the @RedCross again to do the right thing with disaster reeling money. “We couldn’t handle the insane amount of money pouring in for bushfire victims” is the most pathetic thing I’ve heard in my life.

@RedCross hi.. Brooklyn NY, and flying to see parents in Ohio next Tuesday. I’d like to donate blood ASAP and wondering if it’s possible to get tested for Covid and antibodies PRIOR TO
next Monday
Replying to @goinyain

@RedCrossNorCal @RedCross I went to give blood yesterday in SF. There were 10 people waiting inside together for over an hour despite appointments. They were using an oral thermometer-checking twice. Check in lady not wearing a mask over her nose. It was stressful.

Hi Emmy, we're sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate your willingness to help. Blood volume is determined by body weight and height. Individuals with low blood volumes may not tolerate the removal of the required volume of blood given with whole blood donation.

@RedCross my husband made an appointment to give blood, however drank a coffee before hand and his blood pressure was 1 point too high. He was told to come back the next day and just walk in and they’ll retest him. He went back today and was told absolutely no walk ins. 1/2
