Do pros have to disclose their outside business activities to third party beyond tax entities? Do regular students have to disclose to universities? The NCAA going this route would seem to me to be same thinking that led to their court skulldraggings.

It's why it is only a discussion and will almost certainly remain that way - unless there is federal help.

Permitting school involvement & a 3rd party administrator triggers issues: (1) Title IX, (2) state laws, (3) employment status, (4) antitrust, (5) privacy invasion.

NIL working group has been discussing these things for a while. They've remained only a *discussion* for a reason.
Sources: The NCAA has begun discussing some potential changes to its NIL guidance, including looking closer at permitting institutional involvement in NIL and re-exploring the third-party administrator concept.

CBS has left many puzzled. The network is paying $50M more for the secondary B1G game than ESPN is paying for the SEC’s top game. CBS pulled out of SEC negotiations 2 years ago bc the price was too high. Many say the network misread the market. bit.ly/3PfOq0j

Pac-12 is in a 2nd exclusive negotiating window w/ ESPN. While ESPN has plenty space & cash w/o B1G, it also may have no competition. “Realize this,” says 1 source. “ESPN is tough, and if there’s no competition, you don’t want to be in that environment.” bit.ly/3PfOq0j

Column: The Big Ten and ESPN, once a powerful combo, are now reportedly done. The lines of demarcation in college sports -- Fox and the B1G on one side, ESPN and the SEC on the other -- are stark, in a landscape where media rights rules all decisions. bit.ly/3AbJyVV

There is plenty of this going on nationally - friction between school and donor-led NIL groups - but they are often kept private.

Not in LA.

Clearly, B1G is looking to schedule its Saturday like an NFL Sunday, with 3 time windows & 3 different networks - 12 (FOX), 3:30 (CBS) & 7 (NBC) - but ESPN already has deals with SEC/ACC for such slots and the network has potential future deals with Pac-12 & Big 12 on the horizon

ESPN turned down an opportunity to bid on the Big Ten’s No. 2 game - the 3:30 p.m. kickoff package - that ultimately is expected to go to CBS, sources tell @SINow. Keep in mind that the league already has 3:30 p.m. & primetime windows for SEC’s No. 1 & 2 games.

End of an era
ESPN has pulled out of Big Ten media rights negotiations, ending one of the longest sports media relationships in the business. ESPN said no to the conference’s final offer of a 7-year/$380 million per-year package, sources tell SBJ.

Story to be filed soon.

FOX vs. ESPN

🥊
You can see it now starting in 2023:

Noon: Big Ten on Fox
3:30: Big Ten on CBS
7:30: Big Ten on NBC

And starting a year later, ESPN will be able to counter-program with:

Noon: SEC on ABC/ESPN
3:30: SEC on ABC/ESPN
7:30: SEC or ACC on ABC/ESPN
