Kind of inside baseball here, but the second thing that stood out today was how well orchestrated that conference was by Saints PR. Announced, Payton spoke, owner made available. All good stuff. They met the moment.

What’s the path to cap space? I’m curious because all you hear about is the negative equity with the roster.
Replying to @KomisarDylan
Saints structured a ton of deals with the forethought of restructuring them ahead of the 2022 season. There are a lot of folks with double-digit millions on roster bonuses and stuff like that. Easy work for them.

I wouldn't be surprised if he drew interest.

Money situation is the easy part. Haha

Alright, here's the emergency show I did right after the news broke about the #Saints and Sean Payton.

Where do they go from here? Outside candidates, in-house candidates, and more.

Well said 👇🏾
So...my thoughts.
Change is natural. It sucks. It's just time, though. A lot of us are scared of the rebuild. True, but understand that Sean and Drew weren't sexy hires. Both are HOFs now. In order to have finishes, there have to be starts. New Starts.
Let's Geaux @Saints

Thanks for the reply! I agree. Still early days, but i’m sure those guys have an idea in mind, hopefully the interviews for these guys go well. Any idea on what sorta compensation we’d have to give if we didn’t go down the DA route?
Replying to @KP07_
Great question. Not at the moment. But I'd imagine that they wouldn't try to go about it cheaply, that's for sure.

Hey Ross, who do you think are the top candidates to take over? - Brian Flores - Joe Lombardi - Dennis Allen Those are my top three. What are yours?
Replying to @KP07_
I think Dennis Allen, Joe Lombardi, and Aaron Glenn should all get a look with their history with the organization. My dark horse is Mike McDaniel, but I know folks would be ecstatic about Flores. Hard to say who top candidates are right now. Everyone should be in play.

Sean Payton thanked New Orleans before AD did.

Ross Jackson Retweeted ·
Payton said he had a great but "tough" visit with Mickey Loomis and Gayle Benson last week about what they wanted to do moving forward. Gayle told him to go away for two or three months and come back for training camp if he wanted. She told him to take his time to think about it

Ross Jackson Retweeted ·
Payton also told his staff that he recently sold his house in Uptown New Orleans and plans to move into his downtown condominium.

In reply to @RossJacksonNOLA
Why not Flores or the offensive coach from the chiefs
They should also get consideration. I imagine it’ll be a wide net. At least it should be.

In reply to @RossJacksonNOLA
Did you see the Chiefs vs the Bills??? Missing a franchise Quarterback. That would truly make this the most desirable job...
Replying to @markmy_wrds
And a coach would get to come into the framework already in place to pick his quarterback.

Ross Jackson Retweeted ·
Sean Payton informed his staff that he’s stepping down in a half-hour meeting this afternoon, per sources. He told them he has nothing in the works, he just needed to step away. We’ll know more at the press conference scheduled in 15 minutes.

Ross Jackson Retweeted ·
The #Ravens have also requested to interview Kris Richard, source said. And I would imagine if Dennis Allen gets the job with the #Saints, he’d like Richard to stick around, too.

Ross Jackson Retweeted ·
I was told this decision has been weighing on Sean Payton. He apparently considered everything since the Saints were eliminated. He has changed his mind several times and I was told right now he is still figuring out his plans. A recharge for now is the best description.

Payton had four seasons of 11-plus wins in his second decade with the Saints. Only three other coaches have done that in the Super Bowl era: Bill Belichick (10), Tom Landry (eight), Don Shula (six).

Ross Jackson Retweeted ·
Saints kicker Wil Lutz said he's grateful Sean Payton "took a wild chance on me 6 years ago, that's something I'll never take for granted. When he said, 'This kid will be here long after I'm gone' I was hoping he would be here longer." ...
