It’s pretty good. It’s not quite Richmond landing Short, Castagna, Lambert & Soldo in the rookie draft at the end of 2014 (in addition to Dan Butler at 67 in the National Draft) though.
Crazy that the Three Cs — Christian, Christian and Clayton — combined for 99 disposals, four goals and 2006m gained. Close mates who usually travel the world together at this time of year instead took Melbourne to the promised land. And they all recently signed new contracts.

? Doc recorded 16 disposals, 15 of which were effective, and five intercepts. Peeled off to fly fearlessly in the air, too

Why the Demons dynasty is just getting started:

Taylor Duryea’s dogged Grand Final understandably lost amid the red and blue love-in. Kept Kozzie to two kicks after famously keeping his feet against Charlie Cameron. In form of life at 30 and, despite brutal style, plenty of juice left. Dad Ronald would be smiling from above.

All of those good picks came after a great year then a poor year where they tanked to go as low as possible. Then another tilt up/ down get another pick up/down get another pick. Writing on the wall no middle finish in 9th.Surly people are not that stupid to get it.

Literally finished ninth last year.
Melbourne’s run of bullseyes with high picks is well-known. Salem, Petracca, Brayshaw, Oliver, Jackson, Pickett. But how about peeling off three premiership players in the backend of the second round one year?
At halftime it looked as though the premiership quarter might need to be redefined. But after Max Gawn's four goals in seven minutes of preliminary final heaven the Demons have now produced seven goals in 17 minutes of what is likely to unlock Grand Final glory. Wow.
That's 5.1 (31) from six 2Q entries against perhaps the best AFL defence we've seen, and Collingwood paid for the deposit.

Something to hold onto, @westernbulldogs fans; the team that trailed at quarter-time has come back to win three of the last four Grand Finals.

The Dogs are down 21 points; the Eagles were down 17 in 2018, the Tigers down 11 in 2017.

A stab at some match-ups ..

May v Naughton
Petty v English
Lever v Schache
Hibberd v Weightman
Gawn v Martin
Viney v Liberatore
Pickett v Duryea
Fritsch v Wood
Jackson v Cordy
McDonald v Williams
Brown v Keath

But does Dunkley go to Petracca or Oliver? And what about The Bont?
Carlton has settled on appointing Michael Voss as the club’s 35th senior coach. It is second time lucky for Voss at the Blues, having missed out in 2019 as the Teague Train gained unstoppable momentum. Decorated champion has landed a plum job eight years after leaving the Lions.

It became the flight itinerary from hell but there’s little doubt the AFL’s phone call to the clouds helped save the Demons and kept the season intact, writes Sam Landsberger.

This is a fantastic shout out to the local clubs, volunteers etc. who nurtured the AFL grand final players. Often ignored by those commentators who are more invested in expensive private schools. Well done @PaulAmy375 and Leader colleagues.…

Even before he became cricket's voice of change Michael Holding was a man to take a stand, solving a murder mystery, smelling a rat when he found $30,000 in his safe on other occasion, and refusing to commentate on one West Indian cricket captain.…

Gold Coast’s upgraded contract has clinched Chol. Suns removed the trigger for a fourth year, guaranteeing Chol a list spot until 2025. St Kilda misses on Mabior. Freakish athlete isn’t finished product but six years of Richmond development a sound base. Third-round compo likely.

Good pick up. Time for a coffee.
If Chol is being offered four years he should take it in a heartbeat. I like him but there is no way Richmond can offer him that sort of security.
Replying to @ExiledVictorian
Potentially four. As story explains, the contract put to Chol is for three years with a trigger for a fourth.
Mabior Chol grew up in Queensland and likes the security of Gold Coast’s four-year offer. Would play next to Ben King and support Jarrod Witts. St Kilda also in race but Essendon ain’t interested. Tigers might fatten up their two-year offer to CJ now…

Not done yet. But at 24 Chol would be a coup worth celebrating for the Suns, who have had a conga line of players leave and few come the other way. Family in Acacia Park, 80km from Metricon. Played 10 of final 11 games at Richmond and his long leap is fun to watch at training.

Thanks for reading, JB.
Two years ago, Ryan Gardner was pouring pints in a Yarraville pub. Cut by the Cats after three years without a game. Then plucked from the Dogs VFL side in the mid-season draft + made his debut that same week. Late in for 1st final after two shoulder ops in 2021. What a journey.

Disappointing that this 'early grand final look' is pretty much just an article on the Dogs. There are two teams playing, Sam.

The Grand Slam proves a bridge too far for @DjokerNole A remarkable major season ends at the 28th and final hurdle, upended by Daniil #Medvedev. The Russian claims his 1st major title 6-4 6-4 6-4, a career highlight after three outstanding years on North American hard courts.

So many good Grand Final stories this year. Hope someone tells Roarke Smith’s. Seven consecutive one-year rookie deals since being drafted. 36 games in those 7 years. Two ACL reconstructions. Delisted and re-rookied twice. Done it the hard way… as Bulldog a story as it gets.

Having a bit of an insight into what the Dogs have been through in the last fortnight - this is one of the greatest football performances - mentally and physically, I have ever seen.
So we get the most romantic Grand Final imaginable at a time when the world has become hard to love. Alex Keath and Cody Weightman will play in the 1954 Grand Final rematch while Duck Naughton’s mits make May’s hamstring mighty important. Best two teams for most of season are in.
Not sure you’ll find a more valuable one-disposal quarter than Josh Schache just enjoyed. He is doing a decent Dyson impersonation, constantly sucking Aliir Aliir right away from the action.

Geelong coach Chris Scott can’t comprehend this treatment, which has differed wildly from ever other finalist. “The Bulldogs have had to endure something that no teams should never endure again in an AFL finals series.” Madness from Queensland and South Australia politicians.

@SamLandsberger analyses the fallout from #AFLDeesCats:
Are the Demons on the doorstop to a dynasty? Is this how they could strike a trade for Adam Cerra? Was last night their perfect pitch, timed to Carlton’s turmoil? And is there a little bit of 2010 about these stale Cats?…
