.@SecDef: The United States is also enhancing its presence along the Alliance’s east, and we will maintain a persistent, rotational presence in the Baltics—including Latvia. #WeAreNATO

Minister Pabriks, it’s great to see you again – and especially in Latvia. Thank you for the outstanding host nation support, and for your decision to develop a new training range that will enable U.S. and Allied forces to maintain their readiness while in Latvia.
I just finished a productive meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Kariņš. Latvia’s partnership is especially crucial after Russia’s reckless, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. They have stepped up, supporting the Ukrainian people as they defend their country.

Delighted that my first stop in Latvia 🇱🇻 was a visit to see U.S. and Latvian service members working together at Lielvarde Air Base. This is exactly the sort of teamwork and collaboration that makes the @NATO Alliance so strong. #WeAreNATO
.@SecDef: General Langley, you have made your family proud every day. But I don’t believe they’ve ever been prouder than they were a few days ago—when you became the first African-American four-star general in the history of the Marine Corps.
.@SecDef: General Townsend, you’ve traveled up, and down, and across this vast continent, investing in our shared security by building lasting partnerships.
.@SecDef: Let’s be clear: a military exists to serve its people—and not the other way around. And militaries must play their legitimate role. That means defending human rights and protecting the rule of law, and not toppling civilian governments or wallowing in corruption.

Half a world away, our @PacificMarines are honoring the service & sacrifice of those who fought in the Battle of Guadalcanal alongside @DeputySecState and Amb. Kennedy, who have personal family ties to the WWII battle in the Solomon Islands. We will always honor our fallen.
After Pearl Harbor, my father enlisted in the @USMC. Beginning August 7, 1942, 11,000 Marines landed on Guadalcanal—including my dad. I’m humbled to travel to Solomon Islands with @USEmbAustralia Caroline Kennedy 80 years later to honor all those who fought for freedom. #G80
Happening right now: The Nation just welcomed its newest 4-star General, Gen Michael Langley. Over the last 35 years, Gen Langley has commanded at every level, from leading a platoon of artillerymen to leading a service component command of 40,000 Marines, Sailors, and civilians.
