More trouble for famously well run Barcelona. Uefa has opened a disciplinary investigation into the club following revelations it spent years paying millions to the former vice president of Spain’s refereeing committee.

Man United takeover discussions being reported like a transfer scramble on deadline day is very much of our time. Lots of reverse ferreting, and words like “confusion” bandied about. Adds to drama and urgency created by estate agent putting it on market 🎪 🤡

Oh
The confected deadlines and sense of urgency is why United’s owners have turned to Raine. This really isn’t a race against time but somehow the banker has created one. Fools and their money. 🎪

Just over three months until Conte’s contract with Spurs ends. And now reports suggesting he would be due £4m in compensation should he leave now. Another reminder of what a good deal maker Levy is.

Crystal Palace turning to Roy Hodgson feels desperate. He’s 75 now, failed to keep Watford up when he last had a go and by appointing Vieira the club appeared to have embraced a different style and recruited to meet that new plan. What’s the plan now?

Of course they would.
UK government figures say they would privately welcome Qatari investment into Manchester United, as the football club’s owners consider a £4 billion bid from a member of the Middle East state's ruling class.

What was also interesting about the prize money announcement is that FIFA is looking to move away from the words "prize money", so all the money isn't the preserve of a few but goes toward grassroots development too. Greater pool of players would hugely boost the game.
Replying to @tariqpanja
Infantino at the news conference later: “I find it really incredible that you have interpreted what I said as making an association with the one of the most terrible, terrible tragedies that happened in humanity and this country with anything that happened in my life.”

One idea might be for FIFA to go direct to consumers on FIFA+ and charge for the Women's World Cup game themselves if commercial broadcasters aren't paying fees FIFA believes the viewing figures deserve?

Infantino lashing out at public broadcasters now for offering 100x less money for women's World Cup than for men's World Cup. Says they could offer women more money if broadcasters that criticise FIFA step up and start to pay more.

The anecdote recalled how African delegates told Infantino they wouldn't back his candidacy when he traveled to Rwanda for a regional tournament in 2015. But a visit to the Genocide museum convinced him to not give up like Rwanda didn't. Quite a thing.

Infantino has delivered his opening remarks at the FIFA Congress in Rwanda where he will be re-elected to a new term. He described how he came here when he first campaigned in 2016 and almost gave up, likening his refusal to give up to how Rwanda recovered after its genocide

When FIFA was in meltdown it convened a crisis group to chart a path forward. One of the main ideas was to ensure no president could out last their stay and a 12-year term was fixed. Now one member of that group plans a 15 year stay. Hello Gianni nytimes.com/2023/03/15/spo…

One of the main complaints about Infantino’s tenure at FIFA has been a perception of taking unilateral decisions without speaking to those affected by those decisions. Here are two organisations representing leagues today:

Another new annual club tournament too that won’t be called the Club World Cup which will be played as a 32 team event every four years from 2025. The new annual event will see the Champions League winner play just one game: the final.

Morocco has just officially joined Spain, Portugal’s bid for the 2030 World Cup. Feels like a winner and the possibility of a very good time. (Ukraine also part of the bid for now — though sense they might not be long)
