I’ve always wanted to do one of those shows that exposes hoaxes, scams & magicians’ secrets.

So tomorrow, check out a special 4th of July episode of #theGrioDaily as we expose the trick behind one of the biggest hoaxes of all time:

Earlier this week, NYPD arrested Jazz Ajilo, a beloved subway musician. New Yorkers were outraged.

In response, Mayor Adams said the subway is out of control and he was elected to fix it. It’s “not the place for disorder.”

So…here’s a thread of that…“disorder”.🧵

Today is Billie Holiday's 107th birthday and the beautiful new book I edited is still on the way! It was supposed to be released today but the shipment is stuck in the mud on a boat in the Chesapeake Bay! 🤦🏾‍♀️ We expect to have them by early May at the latest. I’ll keep you posted! pic.twitter.com/x0I7oR4j45

The Double V campaign (“Victory Abroad + Victory at Home”) during WWII highlighted the legal injustices + segregation Black Americans dealt with as US citizens AND as soldiers in the (segregated) armed forces. 📸 (1) A “Double V” model. (2) Supporters in 1942. #MemorialDay

I don't want to sound mean, but I want people to understand the flaw in asking for something like this. we're not okay. this country is rotting our brains. im sad about it.

wild how many people have asked for a school shooting episode of the show I write. people are that deeply removed from demanding more from the politicians they've elected and are instead demanding "entertainment." I can't ask "are yall ok" anymore because the answer is "no."

Schools scared to death.
The truth is, one education under desks,
Stooped low from bullets;
That plunge when we ask
Where our children
Shall live
& how
& if

It takes a monster to kill children. But to watch monsters kill children again and again and do nothing isn’t just insanity—it’s inhumanity.

An update on our new Billie Holiday book. It looks like another week or so.✨
In reply to @silas_avalon
Hi Slias, the freed ship has now finally arrived at New York port and is waiting in line to be unloaded, then the books need to clear US customs and be trucked to our warehouse. So frustrating this is taking so long, probably another week or so.

A miracle happened today. And I just thought I was knocking out a few vowels. 💁🏾‍♀️✨

RIP you proud Chicano, consummate entertainer & sweet man. Emilio Delgado always announced himself on the phone by saying, “It’s Emilio—Luis from Sesame Street.” As if he needed any introduction! Photojournalist Steve Schapiro has passed away. He was important to the movement. He photographed the March on Washington and Selma to Montgomery march. His images moved minds during a crucial time. This is my favorite photo by him of Dr. King. May they both rest in peace now. pic.twitter.com/tL66gs5A7s

When I met Eartha Kitt 21 years ago, I had no idea that I would start Vintage Black Glamour (which turns 11 today!) much less write a book that would feature her on the cover! She was born 95 years ago today in North, South Carolina. ✨

I grew up on these films. As a man from the Caribbean with a mom who treasured classic movies, he was really always there. MamaCarnegro actually texted me the news. He’s on the cover of the @VintageBlkGlam book in my home right now. Peace to the generations of family he left.

Now that both of my cover stars are among the stars, I thought it would the perfect time to revisit their 1957 film "Mark of the Hawk.” Mr. Poitier played a London-born African named Obam (I kid you not) who returns home for a political position. Ms. Kitt played his wife, Renee.
