It's important to understand that this stunt isn't the work of some radical rump faction of the House Republican caucus. It's being led by their second-ranking member. This is the mainstream House GOP strategy now. politico.com/news/2019/10/2…

The question is whether Gaetz's group didn't understand that they were endangering national security — or didn't care.

Objectively speaking, Republicans violated the SCIF's security rules and took a classified briefing hostage to demand access to which they're not entitled.

The destruction of basic governance norms continues apace.

But in "storming the SCIF" without observing the security protocols, Rep. Gaetz et al, endangered our national security & demonstrated they care more about a political stunt than protecting intelligence information. I cannot emphasize enough how serious this is.

After an incident like this happens, countermeasures have to be taken to ensure the SCIF is not compromised. It is a time-consuming, technical process, which again, I will not discuss.

This is why outside HPSCI there is a security guard and a series of cabinets for people to leave (and lock) their electronic devices while they are inside the room. Failure to follow this protocol can violate the security of the entire SCIF.

In reply to @MiekeEoyang
Bringing electronic devices into a SCIF, and this SCIF in particular is *very* problematic, especially when done by members of Congress. Because Members of Congress (and their electronic devices) are high-value targets for compromise by foreign intelligence services.

So Bill Taylor and Gordon Sondland and the whistleblower said aid to Ukraine was conditioned on investigating the Bidens, but OTOH Mick Mulvaney and Rudy Giuliani and Donald Trump said aid to Ukraine was conditioned on investigating the Bidens. Hard to know what to think.

The man saw all this and never said a dang thing until the whistle blower forced all this into the open. I mean, if this is supposed to be what integrity looks like then we're all in bigger trouble. I repeat, this man saw and knew all this and never said a thing until forced.

Dr. Johnson was a wonderful colleague & friend to me. A favorite memory: my first semester, I asked for his advice after a cheating situation. He walked me down our hall, pounding his fist in his hand, repeating, "You must show them no mercy. No mercy. No mercy." 😂
