Yesterday, an ICU colleague was called a murderer by anti-vaxxers outside her hospital. This was after cleaning the feces, sputum, and blood-stained sheets of another anti-vaxxer patient fighting for life.

$100 for each of the 1,431,000 Albertans who haven't been vaccinated yet is $143 million dollars.

But yeah, let's cut the wages of nurses.

The Alberta Government’s plan for the 4th wave:

1. Wait until ICUs are 95% full & non-urgent surgeries are canceled before taking action
2. Refuse to implement vaccine passports to protect the public & businesses
3. Continue to play politics with peoples’ lives

#ableg

Remember that #antivaxxers aren't just harassing health workers outside hospitals, they're comparing vaccine certificates to Nazi Germany.

Disgusting.

Why aren't we having a national conversation about the ties between the anti-vaxx movement, anti-semitism, & white supremacy?

Dr. Amit Arya Retweeted ·
Hearing an anti-vax protest outside of a children’s hospital filled with vulnerable kids too young to be vaccinated feels like a sick joke.

Dr. Amit Arya Retweeted ·
I won’t give airtime to the people who were protesting at hospitals today.

Instead, I’ll pay tribute to:
-the student nurse who joked with my son while she sat on his bed + gave him his inhaler meds in the hospital.

Do we need another lockdown? No.
Will we be back to pre-pandemic normal? No.
Can we keep schools open? Yes.

A thread.

Dear #antivaxxers:

Getting vaccinated doesn't violate your human rights. There's no conspiracy.

If you need medical attention, we'll never say "I told you so."

Even if you hate us, we’ll still care about you.

Please. Get. Vaccinated.

Signed,

An exhausted health worker

Amazing news, congratulations @DanyaalRaza!

And we would take care of each and everyone of these people when they get sick. I hope they take a good long look at themselves in the mirror and come to their senses.

Imagine the irony of antivaxxers protesting outside hospitals while health workers struggle to save the lives of antivaxxers inside.

“What I try to focus on is the systemic barriers that got them into that position, which I think are a lot more common than people think,”

Thank you @TheAmirImani for emphasizing this.

Extend a hand, not judgement.

Powerful and heartbreaking words from a frontline BC healthcare worker whose hospital was the site of one of many anti-vaccine passport/health measures protests held today here and across the country.

Protesting outside a hospital is low. Waving a sign with a swastika directly across the street from a Jewish hospital is a new depth of low.

This is just disgusting.

There are anti-maskers/vaxxers protesting outside some hospitals while nurses endure poor working conditions just to care for other anti-vaxxers. How does this sound?

Dr. Amit Arya Retweeted ·
Current scene outside TGH @UHN disgusting and vile messaging from anti-vaccine mvmt. They had the audacity to chose the ECLS referral centre that has cared for hundreds of covid patients from across the province.

So let me get this straight. Ontario's new vaccine certificate program limits unvaccinated people from entering restaurants, bars and casinos...but allows them to enter weddings, places of worship and barber shops?

Ontario's premier: "We didn't hesitate to put measures in place to protect people's health & safety."

Reality:

- humanitarian crisis in LTC with 4000 deaths
- essential workers died waiting for paid sick days
- failed vaccine rollout
- still no proper plan to keep schools safe

FINALLY: Starting September 22nd, vaccine passports will be required in Ontario for non-essential indoor activities e.g. bars and gyms.

Folks, why does the government take action months after it is actually required, and only after a significant public outcry?

Over 15,000 people died in Canada’s LTC facilities during #COVID19. After this horrific tragedy, why is fixing #LTC not a priority for all political parties?

@Docs4LTCJustice & @CdnDrs4Medicare have sent a letter with our recommendations to all federal parties. #Elxn44

BREAKING: A group of physicians & researchers @Docs4LTCJustice & @CdnDrs4Medicare have sent a letter to all federal parties asking them to address the LTC crisis.

15,000 people died in LTC during the pandemic. The time for #LTCJustice is now!

Vaccination all but prevents death from #COVID.

Vaccine certificates are one way to increase vaccine uptake, and create safer indoor spaces.

This need not be a political decision.

Delaying vaccine certificates means more death certificates with COVID as the diagnosis.

I am inundated with questions on schools - whether I am sending my child to school, what my decision process is etc. I made this to help parents in the same boat as me. It doesn’t give you answers, but helps advocate for mitigation strategies & work through a few considerations:

When historians someday comment on decreased life expectancy in 2020/21, please remind them that this trend *preceded* the pandemic because of toxic drugs and toxic drug policies.

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day #IOAD2021. This is a thread on preventable death. 🧵

This election, we’re looking for real leadership for #BetterMedicare: commitments to implementing universal #pharmacare, eliminating profit from #LTC and ensuring that access to care remains based on need, not the ability to pay. What are you looking for? #Elxn44

Digital platform workers are precarious. Misclassification leaves them out of even the most basic employment standards.

Today is Tuesday.

With only one week left until the 1st day of school, an announcement on vaccine certificates has been canceled…& there is still no real vaccine mandate for educators & health workers.

Meanwhile, the Premier of Ontario has disappeared.

Isn't this ridiculous?

Last summer, @fordnation promised air conditioning in long-term care homes. That would have come in handy during this year’s intense heat waves, but alas! Another unkept promise to add to the ever-growing list.

There is truth here we must face - we cannot continue to deny the existence of things we seek to end. To reinforce a point - before this campaign, black & racialized candidates and leaders have faced sometimes daily harassment because of who they are...not their policies

If you’re watching white supremacists target Prime Minister Trudeau & thinking “this isn’t Canada,” remember how BIPOC are targeted by the police. Places of worship are vandalized. Leaders don't acknowledge systemic racism.

White supremacy is as Canadian as poutine & hockey.

Khaleel is a hero. The City left people to die outside in the winter. Ppl felt safe in their tiny shelters. The City has spent an enormous amount of money doing everything possible not to address the housing crisis. Court cases, suing Khaleel, paramilitary operations, evictions

Dr. Amit Arya Retweeted ·
I have never seen a vaccinated individual:

- yell publicly at an unvaccinated person.
- spit on an unvaccinated individual.
- threaten an unvaccinated individuals life with death threats.

This behaviour is not just fear, this is radicalization.

Be safe #COVID #GetVaccinated

Dr. Amit Arya Retweeted ·
We’ve watched a rise in hate crimes and the growing radicalization of white men for a long time in this country — and now it’s playing out further in real time in front of us during the election.

Whatever we’re doing to address it isn’t working. We were warned of this way back.

Hi Mina, the answer is straightforward.
Your statement that "the vaccinated are still just as likely to infect others" is scientifically wrong. Vaccinated persons infect others less (<) than unvaccinated persons. 1/5

Headline: Ontario’s LTC minister defends shot-or-test policy for LTC staff.

The real headline: Even after 4,000 deaths during the first two waves, Ontario’s LTC minister continues to endanger the lives of LTC residents by refusing to ACTUALLY mandate vaccines for all LTC staff.

Canada has released new data on COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths after vaccination.

Not surprisingly, the unvaccinated make up the vast majority of all three.

Vaccines work.
