Proud to have written the booklet essay for Kino Lorber's DVD of that and FERDINANDO AND CAROLINA, another underrated Wertmuller filum.

I'm just astonished, and I wonder if people know how hilarious and weird she is.

Every once in a while, I remember a scene from a Lina Wertmüller film and it strikes me how weird it is that film twitter isn't constantly worshipping at her altar. SUMMER NIGHT WITH GREEK PROFILE, ALMOND EYES AND SCENT OF BASIL alone is a million wtfs.

I'm certain that I, across all 15 years' worth of time served in the restaurant industry, would have never engaged in such rowdy and untoward activities. Definitely not in any parking lots, either.
And I, a paragon of morals, never would have done coke in the employee bathroom at midnight during the NYE bar rush. NEVER.

Ppl don't even know how wild shit gets. Worked at one place where 2 servers fucked in the walk-in, with her sitting on top of a big thing of sorbet. They got spotted looking rumpled as they came outta the walk-in but the smoking gun was the ass print in the top of the sorbet.
If you were a server for more than a year, chances are you had sex with a coworker somewhere in that restaurant.

Yeah, this thread brought on a whole flood of entertaining memories. Sometimes I can almost trick myself into believing I miss the service industry. Almost!
The smell. The feel of mashed french fries on your fingers...

In reply to @AWolfeful
Only thing missing here is a meme recognizing the unspoken agreement between service bar and dish: that if you want a certain rack of glasses made a priority, the quickest way to get it is with a Red Bull bribe.
Replying to @ScottWamplerBMD
Hell, if I needed preferential treatment from dish when I was on service, I was handing over whole racks of dead ribs and chicken fingers from the window. Other service people would get mad but dish was well oiled that night.

Incredible thread here.

Ready to die tonight? is the most accurate. The second you step into dish tank you become a nihilist.

Oh dear god, please text a California friend today and make sure they voted NO in the recall election.
First 3 voters to go on record have all said they voted "yes" on the recall. Two said they selected Larry Elder as their replacement candidate.

"Larry will open up this state again and get rid of all the fear that's dividing us."

There is a wonderful / terrifying moment when you realise that there are no grown ups and the "better schools" have a higher % of absolute idiot bellends.

As a fellow state school graduate, I wholeheartedly agree. Idiots, they're everywhere!
Replying to @alanzilberman
People act like the nice degree is some kind of magic ticket giving one an all-powerful brain, and now I know it’s more likely that they were just punctual enough to graduate.

The best gift twitter has given me—a dumb state school slacker who had no interaction previously with Ivy League graduates—is the knowledge that you can lead a horse to Harvard, but you cannot make him think.

Met Gala should be like Rose Parade where you can only design with flowers and organic materials and everyone is preceded by a local horse enthusiast group or the Alhambra bugle club or something. What I’m saying is I am excited for the Rose Parade to ride again.

WHOA. If actually true, this disclosure that bomb techs didn't know the capacity of TCV is jaw-dropping for a number of reasons.

#BREAKING: GOP frontrunner for the CA Recall election @larryelder posed for a photo with violent far right extremist & Capitol rioter/DC insurrectionist Tony Moon in Monterey Park.

Tony Moon assaulted journalists & stalked them, even showing up to their homes to intimidate.

Some friends had this milk jug out on the table while we were having dinner yesterday, and I am haunted by the brand tag on this bottle.

I have been revisiting the WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS series and it’s so consistently hilarious that I kinda feel like the show itself should be a much bigger deal. If you’re not watching it, start. I want that 6 seasons and a(mother) movie here, people, do NOT fuck me on this

I’ve rewatched this show at least 5 times. Nick Kroll’s crew is the gift that keeps on giving.

At ASU, I used to take screenwriting and bum smokes from Philip John Taylor, who co-wrote this script with Bruce Lansbury. From what I recall in class, the journey from the Woolrich story to what the team wanted to do to what USA Network let them do was arduous.

Look the Lansbury family can do no wrong.

If you’re a person who’s been invested in tracking women filmmakers at all, you know things feel like they’ve really shifted lately. The breadth of stories being told is kind of incredible. If I try to step back to even 5 years ago for perspective… just wow.
Replying to @AWolfeful
The great thing is that it totally feels normal and not that special, because it really shouldn’t be. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Post 9/11 thread for people to post the wildest shit they remember from 01 to 06

I'll start:

People thought Osama had an entire mountain hollowed out that he was using as his base and that's why AQ was hard to find and that somehow a group of like 30 dudes arranged this.

April Wolfe Retweeted ·
The morning of 9/11, my political science professor made me leave class so the other students could "grieve and process safely".

I was 18 and living away from my parents for the first time. Yeah, I’ll never forget.

Man people were so fucking crazy after 9/11. There was the awful racist stuff but also just your everyday insanity. Like I watched a man yell, “I hope a plane flies into your face!” at the tow truck driver taking his car.

I was an intern at the Orange County Register. They sent me to South Coast Plaza to report reactions—a flood of outrage and anti-Middle Eastern racism. In the newsroom white men barked about nuking the whole Middle East, “kill them all!” I typed up my quotes with shaking hands.

I think one of the few films to capture the kind of trauma malaise of young people up against a country hungry for war post-9/11 and how it permeated all aspects of life until it felt like background noise is Zach Clark’s comic drama LITTLE SISTER.
Replying to @AWolfeful
It’s a small film, flew under the radar, moderately enjoyed by the critics, but it touched on this moment in time in a way I deeply related to, because I could see my high school friends in these characters.

So no, I'm not really into the whole "unity" thing today, because I remember what happened within days of the attacks -- the way the Bush administration coalesced the country into a mindless war machine, fueled by shopping and motivated by phony patriotism.

Bitcoin is not going to "democratize finance." It is not going to help the world's poor. That is just marketing. Bitcoin is just like any other Ponzi scheme – some people will get rich, and others will be left holding the bag.
