You are literally one of the most grammatically sound people I’ve ever known. Jokes. People are lame me anti-black.

Thank you boo!! And you’re a WRITER so you know!

If we ever get a chance to meet irl remind me to tell you about the excel sheet of “proper” pronunciations I received from an anonymous listener early in my career. 🙃

Not a spreadsheet!!! 😱 How rude!

This is the part I always get hung up on. How do you have time *or* mental energy to sweat this kind of thing? (I make an exception for @idislikestephen, whom I got to know in 2004 after he explained comprise/compose to me by email.)

That is the cutest, most unlikely but best case scenario wow! I’m happy for y’all that worked out ❤️

One morning on my drive to work, I heard a friend's piece on the air where he pronounced the word that means a brief intro to a thing as 'PRY-mer' and I thought "oh no, he's gonna get letters." (I'm pretty sure either pronunciation is correct, not that that's the point)
Replying to @NPRWest
oh brother. and yes, either pronunciation is correct (a perfect example of pronunciation changing to suit human usage)!!

If you're listening to me on a regular basis, you generally understand what I mean, and may even enjoy what I have to say. Which is a blessing, in and of itself. I really mean that. But it also begs the question: if you understood what I said, then what exactly is your problem?
Replying to @bmluse
What exactly do you gain, and what exactly are you preserving when you take a slice of your precious time to "correct" me on a minuscule aspect of a job I do very, very well? Journal about it!

People who are well versed in how grammar works, I assume to be also well versed in how grammar develops and shifts to suit changing contexts and our changing times SO I will not repeat basic information about all of that. I'll assume we all take those ideas as given.

lol and interestingly enough, it's people of a variety of backgrounds! (also a HEALTHY chunk of both For Colored Nerds' and The Nod's listenerships were not Black, and they never dared reach out to me in such a way, so it's not just a race thing)

one of the strangest things that has popped up since I've started at NPR is listeners feeling comfortable reaching out to me to correct my grammar. It's something that had never once happened before in my previous 8 years of hosting.
