Please stop with this dinosaur nonsense. One of the things that held us back was a lack of versatility that so many other countries and their players had. We have finally evolved and that’s why we are now more competitive.

Dinosaur? For wanting perhaps one of our biggest attacking threats and defensive strengths to play in the position he’s best suited? That’s the wrong term. I’ve been banging the drum for flexibility and rotation for years. But you have to give yourself the best chance also.

In reply to @dwright75
Totally different. Totally. Fullback being a fullback opposed to a midfielder being played on the wing. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Come on Gary, for years we’ve tried to fit people in not their natural position. Reece James is a wonderful talent, a right sided player or central. Perhaps the best we have (Walker aside). Play him where he’s best. Why sacrifice those qualities?

In reply to @dwright75
You’re assuming rather disrespectfully that James would be a square peg. He plays both sides brilliantly.
Replying to @GaryLineker @reecejames_24 and 1 otherfalse
He’s brilliant. Really really good. But you could apply your logic to Scholes when he was shunted out left. Didn’t work.

Interesting to see @reecejames_24 play just as brilliantly on the left as the right. Imagine having him on one flank and @TrentAA on the other. #GarethSouthgate.

Had enough of round pegs in square holes from the golden generation just to get players on the side. Balance. So undervalued.

Brighton fans booing the team and Graham Potter - have a day off ffs

Britain and France. Playing politics with people’s lives.

It’s easy to pile in on Dele Alli, and his form hasn’t been good for ages.
But I’d love to see him get back to the player of his first two or three years at Spurs. Played fearless and with freedom.
Sad to see the decline.

Half time happiness for the Hammers here in Vienna. Two late goals. Top spot now there's to lose

Until Yarmolenko's goal, the biggest incident was subs Rice, Fredericks and Fornals being told off by fourth official for trying to play keepy-ups on the touchline while they were warming up

In reply to @johncrossmirror
They need an out of work coach, with top-level experience, who might do a good job until the end of the season. CL track record would be good, but you can't have everything. Know anyone?

Taking nothing away from the strike which is sweet as. But from replays we’ve just watched from behind it bounced

That Thiago strike might be the sweetest strike I've ever seen. Got to be up there at least. The way the ball dips low but then rises again, not hitting the ground, just breathtaking
Replying to @TomBarclay_
It clearly bounced!!

Quality is often lost celebrating 25 yard screamers.
That from Bernardo Silva was pure silk.
Takes another level of player to do that in such situations.

It has been a challenging year for me in 2021. I've been working alongside my recovery from a meniscus tear and now it will be alongside recovery from Acl reconstruction.

I'll be having a short break from work this time. Football giveth and taketh away. ❤️⚽😥 pic.twitter.com/mvcK4juHsb

Ah man. That’s bad news. Rest up and take a breather. 👊

Cancelo doesn’t look once over his shoulder outside him, where Mbappe waited unmarked.
You can play all the lovely outside of the boot passes you like, but a full back still needs to defend

In reply to @dwright75
I hope they still do you hotdogs mate, they are bloody lovely 😋🌭
Replying to @petecolley
One of few stalls open in centre was hotdog and curry wurst! Everything else shut!!

At Rapid Vienna awaiting West Ham for pre Europa League press conference.
Proper stadium - such a shame it will be empty

What a player Reece James is. Didn't give Chiesa a look-in, and so much quality and composure in possession.

Worry for Chilwell - from what we can make out just behind the tunnel, he was indicating he twisted his right knee

Some of my old Hayter's colleagues....would have worked on the Eurosport version of Ceefax. What fun that was..... @dwright75 @SBrennerNews @stGuyer @SunMartinB

I recall. Also did the local sport pages on Teletext. No more than 66 words

If Poch is United’s first choice, can’t help but wonder why owners didn’t go for him when he was available (when it was obvious Solskjaer wasn’t the right man).
Would have saved themselves wasting two years.

Disgusting. Award the game to Marseille, order six home matches behind closed doors and deduct six points.
To every single club where this shit happens.
Lyon vs. Marseille is brought to a halt after Dimitri Payet was struck on the side of the head by a water bottle thrown from the stands 😳 pic.twitter.com/RHQtbE0VJK

Some personal thoughts:

Husband and I have just recovered (mostly) from Covid... no idea how we got it since we've been super careful and not done much. Shopping or swimming we think.

I am left grateful for masks & vaccines - here's why: 1/8
Very similar to me a few weeks ago. Which does beg the question about vaccine passports because I was using them while unwittingly positive. They didn’t stop me infecting others.

Booed off at half time in your first Pl game in charge. Conte has got some work to do at Tottenham

That first half was rather similar to the displays by Spurs under Nuno.
Safety first, very little daring to do.

Getting on to 3pm here in Qatar. STILL no decision from the FIA on the potential grid penalties for Verstappen, Sainz and Bottas.
Replying to @benjhunt
Lunch, dear fella. Lunch. Priorities

Late morning - have the FIA stewards come up with any more technical confusion yet? Or do they need another few days?

In reply to @dwright75
No they appointed a 'caretaker boss' - huge difference.
Replying to @hamish95
caretaker is another word for interim.....to give them time to appoint an interim (another word for caretaker)

So United have now appointed an interim, while they go out and search for an interim?

They really don't know what they are doing, do they?

Solskjaer was, is and always will be a Manchester United legend.
He didn't cut it as a manager...that happens

But his legacy will always remain

I see the sun has followed Jason Tindall up to Tyneside then 🌞

Klopp row with Arteta started by Klopp screaming disputing more of an arm in the face challenge than the one he cried about so much at West Ham the other week.

In reply to @dwright75
Then why are you so pissed off about ole possibly staying
Replying to @LukakuPr0p
I’m not. I’m stumped about the shambolic way the club is being run.

In reply to @dwright75
Are you a united fan Duncan

How can you decide not to decide? 🤔🤦‍♂️😩

In reply to @dwright75
They should have got Conte. Who they after now?
Replying to @SLTjustin
This is one of their issues. They’ve dithered so long there are not many available

So you call an emergency board meeting. And then can’t decide??
Whoever is manager has got no chance with these clowns in charge
BREAKING: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's future as Manchester United manager still undecided after emergency meeting of club officials following Watford defeat

In reply to @ItsMarkWebster
Waiting to hear, Mark. You wouldn't put anything past UEFA...
We’ve been told not. This counts

Eddie Howe to miss first game in charge.
You actually couldn’t have made this up. 🤦‍♂️😩

Every time we think we’ve scraped the barrel here in UK, along comes America.
Fml 🤦‍♂️

Ogbonna will have surgery on knee injury. Ruled out for the season for West Ham.

You say that like it's normal! 🙈 I'm not suggesting this is a covid pass (yet..?), I'm saying that we need to be more aware of the potential tech surveillance which is soon to be involved in going to buy your corn flakes! (i like chatting to people on tills too...).
Replying to @beverleyturner
these shops have been open for couple of years - it's fairly normal in certain areas of london. (one next to wembley stadium). I have issues over covid passports, but clubcard already know shopping history etc, that ship has sailed

I'm sorry what??
Replying to @beverleyturner
It's like an amazon shop - no tills. Check before tweeting

In reply to @dwright75
I did listen Duncan and I ahve been vindicated, you though did not listen. Azeem is a proven racist, the only one proven to be so but you had your narrative and refused to listen to others but instead just had a go at me for challenging his word. bbc.com/sport/cricket/…
Replying to @MartinTurner66
He’s admitted it and said not acceptable. And it’s the same with all the others. You doubted his testimony, when several have already come out to apologise. The whole system has a problem

Marcelo and Dani Alves for me. Full backs have to defend as well as attack.

Roberto Carlos, Marcelo, Dani Alves, Cafu. Are the five best full backs ever (Maldini?) ALL Brazilian?
Replying to @sidlowe
Ashley Cole better than at least two of these

In reply to @dwright75
You probably caught it from some dickhead who hadn’t been vaccinated,go figure moron
Genius comment. Given three people have caught it from me, double vaccinated. How does that square with your prognosis. And why am I a moron?

In reply to @dwright75
Your employer because of the stance they are taking. A Covid passport stops the unvaccinated from entering a premises, if there was not one then the infection rates would be even higher. The idea is to reduce transmission as best as possible and Covid passports help that.
Replying to @MartinTurner66
No idea what stance they are taking to be honest. Transmission and infection rates not affected by a vaccine. Just the mitigation of severity. Again, unless you have evidence to the contrary? Far better would be proof of negative test.

In reply to @dwright75
You asked what is the use of covid vaccine passports so I'm asking what would you suggest be an alternative.
Replying to @Demarinuh
Proof of negative test show more than a vaccine status

In reply to @dwright75
No you’re correct it doesn’t. It reduces the risk of transmission but does not stop transmission. Particularly when positive at an event or venue with loads of people. Regular testing is only way to prevent that accurately.
Replying to @wefollowunited
Totally agree. Can more see logic in proof of negative test than a passport.
