A suicide bomber struck during busy prayers at a mosque in #Pakistan, killing at least 44 people and injuring 150.

About 300 people were inside the Sunni mosque in Peshawar, which houses the city's police HQ.

It is one of the worst attacks on security forces in recent times.

Wait, there's more! In 2021, the Ford govt signed an agreement with Canada to preserve Great Lakes water quality. The federal govt tell me they are "closely monitoring" this decision because if phosphorus (found in poop) levels increase, Ontario would no longer be in compliance

Why else does this matter? In 2005, Ontario signed a Great Lakes treaty (aka. the most important environmental agreement you've never heard of) with 8 U.S. States & Quebec promising to protect the Great Lakes. This decision "breaking the spirit" of this agreement. pic.twitter.com/0jZ0zEyGBi

Why does this matter? As a Narwhal reader helpfully sloganed: "You can't scoop (or build), before you plan for the poop." York Region has been debating how to do this for 14 years. Doug Ford made a sudden decision about it, with very few details. The consequences could be HUGE

Doug Ford wants to shift more of York Region’s sewage to Lake Ontario — a decision made the same day as Bill 23 that may break an international Great Lakes agreement AND forever destroy the health of 2 lakes that give us drinking water.

Another excellent piece by @thenarwhalca @fatimabsyed. Ford government thinks “solution to pollution is dilution” but we saw decades ago where that leads to in the Great Lakes. This will also only increase sprawl in the Lake Simcoe watershed.
Thank you for your help in understanding this!

I can't remember Quebec without forever thinking about Christchurch. hate begets hate, in ways we still don't fully understand and comprehend. The very least we can do is never forget.

This man was the voice of journalism throughout my childhood in the Middle-east. His voice rung in every taxi, every corner shop.

Still can't believe the BBC is ending one of the most relied upon news sources across the Arabic-speaking world after 84 years.
I grew up listening to my dad presenting on BBC Arabic and now here he is presenting the final hour of BBC Arabic before it's closed and taken off the air.

It really is the end of an era. Tune in to hear "هنا لندن" one last time♥️ bbc.com/arabic/bbc_ara…

Updated this story with Premier Ford's comments today: he's arguing the Greenbelt is provincial jurisdiction.

It is, but — courts have affirmed that climate issues are federal jurisdiction, and Greenbelt is a climate issue. So this could get interesting!

Why does this matter? Conservation authorities have protected the environment from harmful development (not all development is harmful) for over 50 years. No other entity in Ontario is prepared or equipped (or funded) to do this. Municipalities are "frustrated and flummoxed."
