as a #trans woman i’ve slowly become so obsessed with only presenting myself fully glammed out of fear that without makeup on people will see me as a man… but the truth is i need to remind myself that makeup alone doesn’t make me the woman that i am. i’m beautiful both ways 🥺🤍 pic.twitter.com/tIdQRSlHYQ

learning this is extremely difficult, and I’ve noticed that it starts with just how engage with self talk. I am naturally more motivated when I say “work out bc it feels good” vs “work out bc you’re fat”
that’s very true! negative motivations never really helped me but once i started using positive motivations i noticed a much more substantial change

alright that’s enough thinking aloud on this big bird app. i am now no thoughts, head empty.

The article states that they misrepresent their gender that is beside the point it's sickening that another black person is just killed with no remorse but we worried about pronouns
yes people are worried about respecting them even in their death... we can walk and chew gum at the same time

The line is super delicate because many of the reasons why people want to lost weight is because of fatphobia. It’s different for everyone but people have to interrogate why they want to lose weight and if it’s connected to some form of fatphobia
Replying to @afrosorbit
i fully agree that it can be and is often rooted in fatphobia. that’s why i said the two thoughts “can” coexist but didn’t assert that they always do. it’s very important that people are introspective when it comes to their motivations.

In reply to @IvyKungu
This right here. Doing it for yourself because you love who you are and just want to be nicer to your body in all ways.

In reply to @IvyKungu
people are so one or the other but no. in fact, in my experience, learning to love yourself rn and being comfortable with your body can cause you to gravitate towards healthier weight loss methods that have longer lasting effects (as opposed to crash diets).
Replying to @IvyKungu
and if your weight is causing you discomfort (ex. pain, health issues, etc.), attempting to receive yourself of that discomfort can be done out of love for yourself and wanting to improve your quality of life. it’s not always “me ugly me lose weight” 🙃

you do not need some mythical number on the scale or on the label of some jeans’ permission to love yourself

but also,

making the decision to lose weight does not have to mean that you hate yourself.

these two thoughts can peacefully coexist.

similar is still a fair assessment. fatphobia can have many effects that extend beyond physical insecurity. in your experience being skinny was worse but a looot of people say being fat was for them. your experience is valid but it’s definitely far from the general consensus.
Replying to @IvyKungu @breckhampe and 1 otherfalse
and regardless this wasn’t really the time to be like “well people call me names” that’s a separate issue and it’s fair to talk about but to bring it up when people are discussing fatphobia doesn’t do anybody any favors.

In reply to @IvyKungu
she referenced similar, not the same thing hence why i responded! not trying to argue at all, just saying from someone’s who’s experienced both sides :)

as someone who’s lost near 100 pounds, i understand they’re two different things completely but being skinny shamed is a thing and shouldn’t be invalidated. i’ve been degraded more and had more comments made on my body from others since i’ve lost weight then from before tbh
this person is specifically speaking on people who act like they’re the same thing. skinny shaming is still bad ofc. nobody should be shamed for their body type.

this is why im not finna argue with mfs claiming skinny and fat girls experiences are similar bro i do not know one skinny girl who feels like this but i know many fat girls who do

like i’ve heard people talk about feeling like their partners didn’t wanna be seen with them and stuff i recently saw a video of some dude being shamed by his friends for sleeping w a bigger girl... regardless of how secure u r it makes sense that your brain would start going
Replying to @IvyKungu
fatphobia is the issue at the end of the day. and before people start talking about preferences. you can prefer what you want but if people are being shamed for their preferences and hiding people bc they feel like it’s bound to happen... there’s a bigger issue there bb.

i think this topic is one that really shows how important it is to get your info from various places, bc there are aspects of this as a smaller fat person that i can’t properly speak on

but i feel like thin people often frame this as an insecurity thing when it’s really not

god especially big dark skinned girls. i’ve been there. i hate that people make us feel like that. i hate that we have to find that love within ourselves in a society that constantly convinced us that we’re undeserving of it. i just— it sucks.

having any measure of self love as a plus sized dark skinned person is an act of rebellion. it shouldn’t have to be, but it is.
