Latest hospitalisation data from Gauteng does show quite a large increase in hospital admissions due to Covid (most recent week incomplete). Now almost 5x increase over 2 weeks from 136 -> 647.

All of our fabric masks are triple-layered and have a pinchable nose bridge to ensure a snug fit. The ties (made from stretchy recycled t-shirts) can be tied behind the head or ears. They’re not medical grade, but they’re tolerable to wear for long periods and they’re reusable… pic.twitter.com/j0FBUrbzvM

The UK Health Security Agency has said there are now 13 confirmed Omicron cases in England, 9 in Scotland 🚨

Looks like the government are leaning heavily, again, on NHS GPs to deliver vaccines

Doctors are of course supportive of boosters+I’m sure everyone will go above+beyond. But these are the *same* doctors who @sajidjavid has been gaslighting continually. Please support NHS staff💙

Boris Johnson’s press conference is about to start.

Three tweets on England school covid absences.

1. Children off with confirmed or suspected covid remains very high, especially when compared to summer term. Half term did cause a drop but new transmission has driven more cases again. 1/3

Apparently Boris Johnson is doing a press conference at 4pm 🎙 🦠

My kids are doing their nativity today. No one is going; it’s being recorded by the teachers and they’ll send parents a copy. And that’s a pity, but it’s fine. I’m looking forward to watching it 🎄🌟

Why will the face mask mandate expire at the end of December 20th?! This makes no sense.

Hi guys! If you’re on the @EveryDoctorUK mailing list you’ll have received an email from us yesterday about our Christmas items; they’re running out so if you’d like something lovely, take a look now!

Some of our decorations are on my tree!👇🎄💙

NHS winter crises aren’t unprecedented. They are predictable annual systemic failures which place patients’ lives at risk. @EveryDoctorUK will be live-streaming our MP briefing about this at the end of next week, to help explain the facts to you.🚨

This is the second Health Secretary who has tone-policed Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, an NHS doctor, in the House of Commons.
Dr Rosena Allin-Khan: When will Conservative backbenchers start wearing their masks?

Sajid Javid: The honourable lady has misjudged the tone of the house

Some facts:

I don’t ‘profit’ from selling @EveryDoctorUK masks. The masks do, however, help to fund a non-profit which helps to advocate for NHS staff and patients. We have been instrumental in forcing policy changes to ensure peoples’ safety throughout the pandemic.

Wear a mask in other public places. The virus doesn’t exclusively exist in shops and on public transport 👍

Oh no!! Fully decorated the Christmas tree, whole thing fell over, my little girl shouted ‘nooo Christmas is cancelled!!’ and burst into tears!! Poor little tot!! 🎄🥰🌟

and see this latest reporting from Guardian.

I think acting aggressively to control spread is required now.

I’m putting up the Christmas tree with the kiddies later; excited!! Ju 🎄🎄🎄

Quick note: Slowing down the import of a variant is only helpful if you're going to use that time to prepare or act.

Very comfortable, well made and most importantly keeping others safe...thank you 💙

The current level of abuse directed at myself+ @EveryDoctorUK by those who do not want to wear masks is such that I don’t read comments on my Twitter posts. Please email us on campaigns@everydoctor.org.uk if you have questions- not intentionally ignoring you (and I’m fine👍😷💙)

“The Omicron variant is likely to spread internationally, posing a “very high” global risk where Covid-19 surges could have “severe consequences” in some areas, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said this morning.”

When you hear masks conflated with restrictions, remember: this is the govt narrative not the publics. They said masks were restrictive, shielding was cowering. To many of us, masks are closely linked with our freedoms, because they mean we can move in society feeling much safer.

unfortunately I suspect omicron seeded across UK (and many other countries).

We need to slow further importation - ask travellers from ALL countries to isolate on arrival regardless of vax status.

AND additional domestic measures for at least 2 weeks while we assess threat

The #OmicronVariant , #COVID19, mandatory #masks and #vaccination; A thread of hope.

It has been a hard two years. Over 5 million have died, and daily new cases in the UK are over 40,000, with a much lower death rate than before. We can be thankful for this, but must think hard.

I’ve been asked by an @EveryDoctorUK member to share this request for people with ME, their carers or health professionals to select their top 10 questions that need researching re ME/CFS. We really need more input from health professionals.

Why are masks going to be mandatory in England on public transport and in shops, but not in other crowded public spaces?

It’s absolute nonsense😷

Thank you for your latest masks which are heading to be Christmas stocking fillers. Happy to wear them.

Please report this tweet as misinformation.
Suggesting masks don't work as we seeing rampant spread, and now a new variant on the horizon is dangerous. Overwhelming evidence that masks are effective. Please wear well-fitting high-quality masks in public spaces & indoors.

Face coverings will be compulsory in shops and on public transport from tomorrow (30 November), unless exempt.

This is one of the new precautionary measures being introduced to prevent the spread of the #COVID19 variant Omicron.
