A stain on the global conscience. Another result of a decade of US foreign policy based on saying something is too difficult until it's too late or becomes impossible.
Horrible, barbaric. Almost no words to describe this. #Assad murders Syrians and then decimates hospitals and clinics. https://t.co/fP7g9naqvW

News velocity is fierce these days but please don't forget Eastern Ghouta. Assad's siege of 400,000 civilians — who were gassed and are being bombed — is longest military siege in modern history. Longer than Sarajevo, longer than Warsaw

Interesting case against free will! Yes it's absurd for Trump and GOP to now accuse Obama of failing to stop their efforts to abet Putin's attack, but it doesn't excuse Obama's failure to stand up to them.

This new EU statement on the catastrophic human tragedy in Eastern Ghouta & Idlib is probably their most tired & unimaginative response to the whole Syria crisis - war criminals & their backers, esp Russia, will not be deterred by this.

This is the flaw of the "engagement" theory of dealing with dictators like Putin. @Kasparov63's book discusses this extensively. It entrenches the dictator by lending global recognition, while allowing dictatorial norms to bleed into our not-as-safe-as-we-think democracies.

Omerta in Putin's Russia. The dictator wants to gloriously defend Mother Russia from its made up enemies, but cannot admit anyone has been harmed because no one wants these wars.

Dictators can speak as though no one will remember what they say or challenge their lies and contradictions. Presidents cannot, but Trump doesn't know it.
"[Putin] said he didn't meddle. He said he didn't meddle. I asked him again. You can only ask so many times. Every time he sees me, he says, 'I didn't do that,' And I believe, I really believe, that when he tells me that, he means it. I think he is very insulted by it." 11/14/17 https://t.co/ukAITAjzjo

Trump had better acknowledge Russian interference now, because we're close to the point where Putin will boast about it.

Trump's refusal to acknowledge Russian interference looks worse by the day. But has anyone asked Obama or his admin? They were in charge when all this was happening. His "flexibility" when Putin was attacking the US is damning of his judgment.

Bingo. We protested about this for so long. The only Western-leaning ex-Soviet countries that weren't let into NATO have both been invaded by Putin. He got the message NATO nations wouldn't act, and attacked.
Or, more diplomatically, no non-allied nation should have a de facto veto on another nation's NATO ascension, which Russia has been provided with regard to Georgia and Ukraine's aspirations. https://t.co/Xu7XhC49mg
