”The imprisonment of elected politicians, who have never incited violence, is an offence against every citizen of the EU.”—@iainmacwhirter

Images of the Spanish police brutality against Catalan protesters during the last few days in Barcelona.

Someone please tell me WHY anyone would like to continue being Spanish in this situation?

Would you stay in a marriage if you were treated like that?

The other day talking to @BBCWorld News, they asked me “What's the real issue in Catalonia?” and this is it: Spain doesn't even bother to pick up the phone. Never has. And if it can use Catalonia as a tool for riling up voters in other areas, that's just a bonus.
Spanish president refuses even to answer the phone from the Catalan president. What a grave lack of responsibility.

Pido a la Delegación de Gobierno en Madrid no autorizar manifestaciones pro independentistas como la de ayer, cuando haya riesgo fundado de alteraciones de orden público. the point about the dish soap and the #tossedrefrigerators is about establishing a narrative of violence (where none exists) so that they can have an excuse to not talk to us, or let us vote. Oh, and those dastardly referendum organizers were sentenced to 9-13 years in jail.

I have heard twice, from educated people, that whoever is not catalan nationalist should not live in catalunya. It’s not precisely a sign of tolerance. Besides that, it’s true that this is wonderful land, in many ways, and most secesionists are peaceful
Oh piffle. That's ridiculous. And even if you could produce those two mythical characters, they are not representative of Catalonia or independentists.

As for school, there is as much (and generally more) Spanish language instruction in Catalonia as there is in any part of Spain or for that matter English language instruction in the US. The difference is that the rest of the classes are in Catalan, so that everybody learns both.

In reply to @lizcastro
Hi Liz, let me tell you a couple of anecdotes about imposing and excluding. In Catalunya, there are 2 co-official languages, however most if not all official documentation (from school to medical documentation) are only in one language. There is also no Spanish track in school.
