I’ve learned to stomach a lot of hypocrisy from the UCP, but this is too much.

@RajanJSaw, YOU were the Minister who de-indexed AISH and responsible for FSCD for 2+ years.

What’s next? @rebeccakschulz campaigning on increasing supports to former foster children? 🤦🏽‍♀️

The UCP has blundered their way through the deadliest years on record for drug poisonings in Alberta.

Now they’ve abandoned their own plans to move SCS from Sheldon Chumir to the Drop-In Centre. Clearly @MikeEllisUCP has no coherent plan to address this lethal crisis.

Long ambulance delays & unprecedented ER wait times are driven in part by the UCP’s inability to respond to the drug poisoning crisis.   @MikeEllisUCP must answer how he intends to save lives, protect communities & relieve the pressure he’s put on #yyc first responders. #AbLeg

This sudden reversal leaves frontline healthcare workers & the broader community in the dark about what the path forward is.     Ellis’ dithering has put intense pressure on Calgary first responders & ERs, which are already in crisis due to UCP mismanagement. 2/ #AbLeg

Now more than ever we should be arming educators with more resources to make up for learning gaps caused by covid.

But the UCP hasn’t kept up with inflation and we’re seeing larger and larger class sizes without increased resources.

It should be unbelievable to Albertans that while boasting a $13.2 billion surplus, the UCP believes a severely disabled Albertan should get by on $1685/month during the worst affordability crisis in 40 years.

A recent survey found 1/2 Albertans were just $200 away from not being able to pay their bills at the end of the month — the highest rate in the country.

Yet the UCP have a multi billion dollar surplus (of which $300M+ came directly from increased income tax)…

A single person on AISH who lives in the community receives $1,685 a month.

Three years ago, the government removed indexing (which would have increased benefits to matchthe rate of inflation)

Finance Minister Jason Nixon isn't reversing that decision today.

The UCP deindexed personal income taxes in their first budget, which increased income taxes on Albertans, and then lied about it for the next three and a half years.

🧵Context on today's statement by the Premier:

We’re seeing critical shortage of ambulance & emergency services in Alberta.

Adding harm reduction services (supervised consumption, drug testing, safe supply) could quickly relieve some pressure on the system, as currently >10% of ambulance dispatch is to drug poisoning. #AbLeg

Not beds.

This is dangerous incompetence from someone aspiring to be leader of Alberta.

Hotel healthcare is definitely not a solution to this complex problem.
