Salman Rushdie es amenazado desde que yo era adolescente…. Hoy lo alcanza un fanático en NY. 😢

You can do both.

Anne Heche has children, and no one deserves to lose their mother in a tragic way.

Compassion can go miles. Humanity needs more of it.

Grateful to all of you who reached out about this illegal, unauthorized production. Now lawyers do their work.
And always grateful to the @dramatistsguild, who have the backs of writers everywhere, be it your first play or your fiftieth. 1/2

Remember fun on Broadway? With its insane choices and powerhouse vocals, “Diana” briefly brought it back, but y’all weren’t ready. I salute her in ⁦@nytimesarts⁩ 👑 nytimes.com/2022/08/07/the…

Shout-out to every Latino in Hollywood who keeps going despite every obstacle that keeps being thrown at us. The disrespect is outrageous but we will not let it get us down and define us. Our voices matter and we need each other so just keep going.

This! 1000% And Broadway’s no different than Hollywood. We need more Latino representation in the arts & entertainment. We need more Latinos in positions of power. We must stop with the appropriation, keep fighting & get louder & louder & louder!

¡¡¡Que orgullo verte en la avenida Broadway en Times Square, @salasmau !!! Sentí muy bonito. ¡¡Te quiero mucho, tocayo!! ¡Bravooooo, Jorge Negrete! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🇲🇽♥️🗽 Monterrey is in the house!!!!

Brother I feel this so much it hurts. It literally feels like we are invisible. I think there is a huge crossover in the under representation of Latinos and Asians in media and we export that to everyone else. We export these negative stereotypes and an inherent exclusion.

I couldn’t agree with you more, brother. And yes, it hurts. And it does feel like we’re invisible at times. But we must keep fighting the good fight and keep creating our own opportunities. We’re not going anywhere.

In reply to @martinezmau
This. People get mad at us for not being known when we haven’t been afforded anywhere near the same opportunities, even though we make up 20% of the box office and 35% of streaming consumers.

And the Hispanic population in the US was 62.57 million in 2020. Sixty two million. We’re almost 19% of the population in this country and yet, we continue to be underrepresented on stage, tv & in film. Regardless of the color of our skin and our heritage. We just don’t exist.

NEW COLUMN: Great Latinx films and TV shows are being canceled just as we were seeing progress. The entertainment industry sees Latinos as disposable when it sees them at all. Please read and share.

Broadway’s no different than Hollywood. It’s as if ‘diversity’ doesn’t want to include Latinos. And if you’re not playing a drug lord or holding maracas in your hand while speaking with a stereotypical thick accent, there just aren’t many other roles that we actually get to play.

I LOVE seeing my beautiful black & Asian colleagues tell their stories. I celebrate it. I fight for it. Pero…let’s get real: where are the Latinos? I’ve said it before: some folks’ idea of ‘diversity’ doesn’t always include Latinos.

Specially since we’re biggest minority in the country; there are 62.1 million Latinos in the US. There should be more Latinos on Broadway. Punto. pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022…
