What I like most about this illustration from a magazine of historical counterfactuals, is that even if Catherine of Aragon had had a son, and there'd been no break with Rome, and we had Christ the Redeemer in Trafalgar Square, there is still a rail replacement bus service...

There's a quiet desperation here. Brexit wasn't proposed as "a project that by necessity is to some degree a leap of faith", requiring a "cheerleader". The DT "hope the revolution is only just getting started" but it's clear that dealing with its failure is the only game in town.

Quite extraordinarily, @johnredwood has contacted me and published this blog both saying I wrongfully accused him of voting for the protocol in @HouseofCommons this week.

He claims he abstained on the protocol on the 30th December 2020.

Well, I have news for John. 1/6

The Albanian PM says Suella Braverman has never apologised for her "Albanian criminals" comments and tells Albanians living in the UK to ignore her attempts to win votes by scaremongering about them.

CEO of TikTok just has no idea whether China persecutes Uyghurs or not and can’t say one way or the other. Just like how Mark Zuckerberg thought Holocaust denial on Facebook should be allowed. I have some adjectives to describe these tech titans but I’d be de-platformed.

Except that as @DrHannahWhite of @instituteforgov points out, this isn't about 'Boris', it's about the core principle of ministerial accountability to parliament. That used to matter, even (some Conservatives would say especially) to Conservatives: instituteforgovernment.org.uk/comment/privil…

The commentators on the French radio are not kind to Emmanuel Macron, observing that the violence in the streets has now gone beyond a union-led movement against the pension reforms, but is now a wider revolt and upheaval against him and his government.

Ah, but we DO have a peace proposal:

1. Russian armed forces immediately withdraw, completely, from all Ukrainian territory (including Crimea, which Russia illegally stole from Ukraine in 2014)
2. Russia lives up to its 1994 pledge (contained in the Budapest Memorandum) to… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
