Back in the 70s, Rochester's WCMF was a top rated progressive FM station. An old DJ there, Unkle Roger (RIP), took to playing this trippy, spooky Pink Floyd number on Halloween nights and it worked. youtu.be/48PJGVf4xqk

The best cuisine in the world is Mexican and Mexican in NYC has improved a lot in the last couple decades but it is literally garbage next to LA, the best city in the US for Mexican cuisine. (I’m sure there are some people in Texas who disagree but Texas is a joke state)

Each year, a new Batman. Recycle bad guys every three. Every five years, the titles loop. 2031 is Heath Ledger but as Batman in CGI. 2057 is Michael Keaton’s grandson facing Nicholson’s grandson who is playing Mr. Freeze. By 2094 the movies achieve singularity; we are all Batman.

Except there is no slump, it’s just a lie media is running with. Biden is just as popular as when he was elected.

In reply to @pbump
I get that, and a lack of progress could dampen enthusiasm/turnout. I just don’t see a massive swing to the GOP next year. My prediction at this point based on redistricting and party-who-holds-the-White-House-blues: Rs pick up 10-20 House seats and Ds get 1-3 more Senate seats.

Dem-leaning independents staying home is a swing to the GOP.

I appreciate your analysis, but I’m wondering if it isn’t a little too pre-2016 in its approach. This is a battle over the suburbs, right? And I’m not sure voters are really laser-focused on the bills before Congress. With respect to polling, should we check with Senator Gideon? pic.twitter.com/ThkCqZ2l6u
Replying to @Bondosan007
It's more complicated than that, certainly, and polling has errors! This is about perceptions among Democrats.

I hear you, however, the hyperfocus on certain mitigation efforts over the single most impactful thing one can do to prevent premature death, including from Covid, is a bizarre thing. I can't wrap my mind around that.
Acute vs. chronic. Obesity can contribute to other deaths. Covid can kill you itself, fast. And that can be almost 100% prevented for free.

The most important part of the Democratic reconciliation bill is not what it says about the midterms. But the state of the midterms and Biden's slump with independents almost certainly will inform what the reconciliation bill looks like. washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/…

Independents have soured on Biden and on government doing big things, both shifts that seem likely to affect what the Democrats do on reconciliation. washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/…

About 5,660,000 people died since the start of the pandemic due to obesity related conditions. How many might have lived had we put more of an emphasis on healthy lifestyles?
I've never really understood why this isn't functionally equivalent to "ask people to limit in-person interactions" or "wear a mask." Yes, lose weight! Be careful in public places! Wear a mask! But also this vaccine may save your life and it is safe and free.
