NBC's soon-to-be-announced Big Ten deal means:
1) Notre Dame is likely to remain independent.
2) Expect the return of the Notre Dame-Michigan rivalry.

I would put Bowers' over-under on TDs around 10, but 70 catches for 1,000 yards, I'd bet the under. Again, because of who else Georgia has.
Replying to @SethWEmerson @GregMcElroy and 1 otherfalse
My other argument was if you put Mayer and Bowers in a phone booth, only Mayer would emerge alive. And I realize my position is difficult to prove, but I'm not budging from it.

In reply to @PeteSampson_
Good flag to plant now if we're going by numbers, because Bowers' touches might recede this year, with Darnell Washington, Arik Gilbert and even Oscar Delp eating into his targets.
Replying to @SethWEmerson @GregMcElroy and 1 otherfalse
If Mayer had 70 catches for 1,000 yards and 10 TDs this fall it wouldn't shock me. Which is at least a small commentary on Notre Dame's other receiving options.

You aren’t wrong though, Pete.
Replying to @IrishDaily10
Which Greg actually sort of agreed with after processing for a second.

I've decided that every radio show that I go in in SEC country that I'm going to casually mention Michael Mayer is better than Brock Bowers, just to see how it goes over. You were up first @GregMcElroy and @colecubelic.

NBC announces that Jac Collinsworth and Jason Garrett will call Notre Dame games this season. Zora Stephenson will be the new sideline reporter, with Kathryn Tappen hosting pregame, half-time and postgame coverage.

The UNLV game (Oct. 22) will stream exclusively on Peacock.

I love Finke as much as the next guy, but did you just call him rare? As in, he’s a rare talent?
His shiftiness was rare. That part of his game was unique.

In reply to @PeteSampson_
I’m not suggesting Matt Salerno is a guy who is going to win you a NC, but he’s a much better athlete than the keyboard experts think he is. It is not unreasonable to expect he can be a rotation contributor.
Replying to @PhilLoscoeJr
He makes plays in practice. The idea of him being an option in the rotation makes total sense. Yet to see Finke’s level of shiftiness, but man, that was rare stuff.

One roster note from Monday's availability with the wide outs. Braden Lenzy was asked about former walk-on Matt Salerno, who popped up in a couple practice highlights last weekend. Lenzy said Salerno has been running the first and second teams and wins a lot of 1-on-1 reps.

Is that a snub or a compliment?
Replying to @Irishfan7611
Neither. It was a joke. He was busting on him a little bit. Michael Mayer would make any TE coach look great.

Chansi Stuckey was asked how he can help Notre Dame’s tight ends as a receivers coach.

“Gerad Parker has the best job in the world. Write that down. He comes in, these beautiful, cutout Greek gods just walk in the room.”

Our All-American teams are out at ⁦@TheAthleticCFB⁩.

A couple Irish players made the second team. The O-line will have to block two first-team defensive linemen on Nov. 5. And the secondary will face a first-team WR to start and end the year. theathletic.com/3502241/2022/0…

Uh, no kidding. Hence, there will be a Notre Dame grad in the booth.

Was told earlier this summer that this was 99% done. For those Notre Dame fans waiting on NBC to put a Notre Dame grad in the booth, that will now happen.
NEWS: Jac Collinsworth & Jason Garrett will succeed Mike Tirico & Drew Brees on Notre Dame games for NBC, The Post has learned.

What show is this?
Replying to @ShakeMD1
For All Mankind on Apple TV. it’s an alternative history if Russia had won the space race. Really well done and very entertaining.

This show does not miss.

From Notre Dame’s practice highlights today: Audric Estime hurdling Brandon Joseph (I think).

During Tyler Buchner's junior year in high school I flew to California to spend time with the four-star quarterback.

Here's the guy the Irish will start at Ohio State, a quarterback who's craved competition and will now get it.

Tyler Buchner may be Notre Dames quarterback of the future, but he wont rush the journey

Things you love to see. 🐝

Tyler Buchner asked a whole bunch of questions about being offered at Notre Dame before his junior year of high school.

Here's that story.

"Offensively, we've got enough talent." – Tom Rees on the skill position players available with Avery Davis out for the year.

"There are not 15 guys in this program that are more important than Drew Pyne." – Tommy Rees

Says Pyne will be ready to play when needed. Notes Notre Dame *needs* two quarterbacks ready to play.

Tommy Rees asked what he saw in Tyler Buchner in recruiting that made him think that he could ultimately be a starting quarterback at Notre Dame.

"Talent."

Notre Dame practiced at St. Joe High School this week and could practice at Penn later this month. Freeman downplays it, said the field is "53 1/3 by 120" whether it's at Notre Dame or Ohio State.

No word is Tommy Rees yelled "Hickory!" upon leaving the stadium.

Marcus Freeman says he expects senior receiver Joe Wilkins to be available for Ohio State. Wilkins suffered a foot fracture during spring practice and was initially expected to miss time in-season.

Marcus Freeman in talking about Avery Davis tearing his ACL, notes he spent time with Davis at his apartment yesterday after the injury.

"It's a huge blow."

Marcus Freeman: "It was time. It was time to give the offense clarity on who was the starting quarterback."

For those saying ND failed by not bringing in a graduate transfer...WHO? Who is this player that would have changed the fortunes and lifted up the WR room???
Replying to @PBC72
They needed another healthy body simply to manage practice. Numbers at wide out were not healthy before this latest setback.

Here was Notre Dame OC Tommy Rees on Avery Davis last Saturday: “We’ve had a lot of guys that garnered respect over my last five-and-a-half years here; he might garner as much respect as any player in that locker room that I've seen.”

Brutal news for the player and the program.

Avery Davis suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during practice on Friday and will miss the season. Davis tore his left ACL last November and had recovered to rejoin the team. Davis was going to start in the slot for the Irish.
Replying to @PeteSampson_
Aside from the brutal nature of two torn ACLs in two years, losing Davis takes a captain out of the mix and leaves the Irish with five healthy scholarship receivers. Two (Merriweather and Thomas) have no career catches and one (Colzie) has four.

Defensive line coach Al Washington was asked about Harvard grad-transfer Chris Smith today multiple times. All told, he referred to the nose guard as a "rhino," "block of granite" and a "fire hydrant"

So that pretty much covers it.

Loved this story from @gmraynor on former Notre Dame staffer @NickyV05, now recruiting coordinator for Clark Lea at Vanderbilt. Fun read and good insight into the life of a recruiting coordinator at the Power 5 level.

not sure there's a position group in CFB that will improve as much from last year to this year as the ND OL.

I get it, it's early in camp. And we're just watching five periods of practice.

But, I have a difficult time imagining Notre Dame's offensive line not *at least* being very, very good. Impressive group.

Way to go, @timprister. Always causing trouble.
As a Notre Dame fan... I had to get @JeromeBettis36 to tell us a good Lou Holtz story

He did not disappoint...

Happy Freaks List Day to all those who celebrate.

@BruceFeldmanCFB delivers the Top 100 freakiest athletes in college football, with three Notre Dame players on the list. But unlike past years, you might not be able to guess their identities.

@PeteSampson_ question about your comment on the podcast about Freeman telling Bothello, MTA and Marist they were too emotional and they need to reign it in:

I kind of read that as a cultural difference, and that might be out of line or not received well, am I off base?
Replying to @CBusIrish
The way MTA and Marist described it (and I asked Marcus about this too), was that Marcus was making the point that people see those guys as sometimes too emotional and it was on them to own their own narrative.

Thank you for having me last weekend in Dallas. Great event. Great club.

Wait. If CBS is paying $350 million for 13 good Big Ten games, how much would seven Notre Dame home games be worth?

Again, a lot to unpack.
CBS is expected to pay in the $350 million per year neighborhood for the 3:30 Big Ten games, according to sources.

CBS does a couple SEC prime time doubleheaders a year. Could see them doing same thing if NBC holds a couple weeks open for ND.
