Labour would help households right now by removing the tax breaks that are subsidising oil and gas producers and using that money to help people now, including by cutting VAT on energy bills. (3/4)

Low growth economies cannot rise to meet the challenges of the future.

With our Climate Investment Pledge, New Deal for Working People and plan to buy, make and sell more in Britain, Labour will deliver the strong, secure and fair growth we need.

Great to be out campaigning in Farsley with you and the team @petercarlill - you are doing a great job on Leeds City Council for local people.
Great to be joined by Shadow Chancellor @RachelReevesMP out campaigning and chatting with residents in #Calverley and #Farsley today.

Good weather to be spreading the word about the positive action I've achieved in our area so far, and what more I'd like to deliver in future. pic.twitter.com/ywf6MNNcUK

Labour MP Shabana Mahmood says the Tory leadership contest has 'exposed the joke that Levelling Up has become' with the policy 'not really featured' in policies being put forward by the candidates.

We’ve seen today exactly what Liz Truss thinks of public sector workers.

It’s clear her priority would be to slash their pay packets and send local economies backwards.

12 years of the Tories and this is what we’re left with.

Britain deserves better.

Liz Truss is declaring war on herself with this recipe for levelling down.

A race to the bottom that would cut the pay of school and NHS workers outside London, widening the divide and punishing the North.

This out-of-touch Tory Government’s commitment to levelling up is dead.

Labour argued for months for a windfall tax to help bring bills down, but when the Tories finally u-turned they decided to hand billions of pounds back to producers in tax breaks. (2/3)

It's clear people need greater protection from rising bills. That's why Labour would use this money now to help people get through the winter. (3/3)

🧵People are worried sick about energy prices rising again in the autumn, but yet again we see eye-watering profits for oil and gas producers. (1/3)

BP's profits surged to $8.5 billion in the second quarter - three times higher than a year earlier (and close to record highs seen in 2008) thanks to high oil and fuel prices

It's using the cash to buy back $3.5 billion of shares this quarter and has increased its dividend too

Under the Conservatives, our economy has ground to a halt.

That is why the number one mission of the next Labour government will be economic growth.

Had a very productive meeting with @asda today, alongside @gmb_union's @andygpuk - talking about the need for fair and accurate pay for workers.

Happy #YorkshireDay

From our coasts to our countryside, from our cities to our canals, there's nowhere in the world like God's Own County.

Amazing!!! Well done #lionesses. What an inspiration they are.

Britain is stuck thanks to a succession of Tory governments.

As leader of the Labour Party, I’m focused on getting us into power.

Only then can we deliver the change that trade unions and working people want and need.

1) We’ll strengthen British industry, supply chains & support industrial strategy 2) Trade unions will have access to workplaces 3) All businesses & bodies receiving public money from the UK Infrastructure Bank must have a plan to create good jobs with decent conditions (2/3)
Replying to @RachelReevesMP
There will be contractual sanctions with real teeth to guarantee this. Creating great jobs & sound investments means drawing on a range of expertise, including from the world of work. I will ensure a worker representative is on the board of the UK Infrastructure Bank. (3/3)

🧵The Tories' version of the UK Infrastructure Bank relies on old thinking.

As I set out at @GMB_union Congress in June, Labour will do things differently when it comes to the use of taxpayers’ money to build our infrastructure.

Businesses agree, it’s time for a fresh start. It’s time for a Labour government.

Very good to see the US taking action on the private equity carried interest loophole.

It’s a deeply unfair loophole that leaves fund managers with a tax break of up to £170,000 a year - which is why Labour will abolish it.

The Tories have decimated neighbourhood police, let prosecution rates drop by 2/3rds and let rape charges fall to just 1.3%.

Labour will fast track rape and domestic violence cases through the courts so no victim has to wait more than a year for justice.

Compare and contrast:

While the Tories' investment allowance hands back billions to oil and gas producers, they refuse to act as the cost of living crisis grows.

Only Labour can build a stronger, fairer economy and tackle the cost of living crisis.

*£777 million* of taxpayers' money.

This report is damning.

People deserve far better than this.

Labour will treat every pound of your money with the respect it deserves.

The former Chancellor opposed this every step of the way since Labour proposed it in October - whipping Tory MPs to vote against it time after time.

The Tories have nothing to offer.

Labour are winning the battle of ideas in Britain.

As @AngelaRayner announced at our conference, Labour in government would ensure a Fair Pay Agreement for social care to improve pay and conditions.

Social care is a key part of our Everyday Economy which has been overlooked and undervalued for so long.

Social care jobs are jobs of the future. The sector employs about 2 per cent of the working-age population today and might well need to employ 4 per cent by 2033 to meet rising demand. The question is: do we want them to be bad jobs, or good ones? ft.com/content/2165c8… pic.twitter.com/yehNhelqAE

This underlines yet again how 12 years of Tory governments have failed our economy.

Only Labour will deliver the strong, secure and fair growth our country needs.
