On Sunday, my office attended a fire safety event at College Area Station 10 to mark #FirePreventionWeek. Thank you to our local firefighters for educating our communities and keeping us safe. Remember – smoke alarms save lives.

Honored to receive the Torchbearer Award from @WomenLegisLobby for my efforts to oppose unnecessary increases to the Pentagon budget.

We need to start investing in people, including servicemembers and their families, instead of unneeded weapons systems and endless war.
We are honored to recognize @RepSaraJacobs as this year's Torchbearer!
“We need renewed emphasis on peacebuilding and human rights. And we need a military budget that recognizes that more war isn’t the solution to every problem.”

Today’s @HouseForeign hearing featured former U.S. officials who didn’t want to withdraw from Afghanistan.

But after 20 years, we ended up with a stronger Taliban, a weaker deal, and policies that were increasing terrorist recruitment.

President Biden was right to leave.

This is the female labor participation rate since 1999. It shows clearly: 1) millions of women still out of the workforce due to the pandemic 2) decades of decline.

We’re fighting for child care, paid leave etc, because the economy hasn’t been working for women for a long time.

Happy #FAHM! Proud to represent a large and vibrant Filipino American community in San Diego.
October is Filipino American History Month! Filipinos have been in continental America since 1587, and have played a crucial role in our nation’s history. We are thrilled to celebrate #FAHM alongside our Filipino American communities!

It’s been a week😅

But this is the start of getting the Biden agenda passed, not the end.

Trust me - I’m in @USProgressives and @NewDemCoalition - @HouseDemocrats are united in our efforts to pass an infrastructure bill and a big, transformative Build Back Better Act.

This morning, I joined colleagues at the #InAmericaRemember exhibit on the National Mall for a moment of silence remembering the lives lost to COVID-19. As we remember, we must also support those in need and continue to work to end this pandemic.

Speaking of fiscal responsibility…the @NiskanenCenter found that the expanded Child Tax Credit will boost consumer spending by $27 billion, support over 500,000 jobs, and raise revenues for states and local govts.

Let’s talk fiscal health.

We lose over $1 trillion a year due to the economic cost of childhood poverty.

We also lose over $1 trillion a year due to a decreased female labor participation rate.

Want to talk about keeping our economy growing & competitive? Support families.

Last month, a U.S. drone strike in Kabul killed 10 civilians, including seven children. During today’s Armed Services hearing, I pressed military leaders on our drone program and what steps are being taken to prevent future tragedies.

#HR3 would lower prescription drug costs, prevent price hikes, and reinvest in research and development. #WeNeedHR3

I was proud to join my colleagues in wearing purple to mark #RecoveryMonth. Remember, if you are struggling, you are not alone.

We need to #EndTheStigma surrounding mental health and substance use disorder and ensure that everyone has access to treatment and care.

On Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day, we honor our servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice and the families who mourn them.

I am especially grateful for Christopher Frantz, a Gold Star Family Fellow in our office - a veteran himself who lost his brother in the Iraq War.

#TeamSJ supporting the University Heights Library at their "Get Carded" event as part of Library Card Sign-Up Month. Always proud to uplift our local libraries as essential resources in our community!

Our office was proud to join the @lgbtcenter this AM for the 32nd Annual AIDS Walk & Run, raising funds for crucial HIV/AIDS services, promoting HIV education, and honoring those we’ve lost to the AIDS epidemic. Together, we can #BeTheGeneration to end new cases of HIV!

The U.S. shouldn't provide support to foreign military units that repeatedly commit human rights violations. Backing these units is supposed to be against U.S. law, but for decades there has been one big loophole-- that’s why I brought forward an amendment to close this loophole.

Earlier this month I led a letter with @SenJeffMerkley and 32 others pressing the Admin to issue general licenses to allow NGOs to deliver life-saving aid in Afghanistan. Today, I’m pleased to learn Treasury is taking this important step.

Today, as a proud member of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, I voted for the Women’s Health Protection Act to protect the right to abortion nationwide. Reproductive care is health care, and we won't back down as reproductive rights are under threat across the country. #WHPA

I fought for a lot of important provisions and amendments in #FY2022NDAA – and I’m grateful for the historic inclusions to finally address military sexual assault – but my constituents sent me here to support a responsible defense budget and I couldn't vote for this final bill.

In reply to @RepSaraJacobs
I share Ambassador Daniel Foote’s concerns about our current approach, and was disappointed to learn of his resignation as U.S. Special Envoy to Haiti.
Replying to @RepSaraJacobs
Moving forward, I stand ready to work with the Biden Administration to reorient our policy, with humanity at its core, to uplift and empower the voices of Haitian civil society, and work towards a Haitian-led solution.

In reply to @RepSaraJacobs
We need to come to terms with the fact that decades of U.S. policy has failed to put Haitians in control of their own futures, and resulted in the instability we are seeing today.

I am heartbroken by the images of Haitian migrants – who have escaped poverty, violence, and a natural disaster – now facing brutal treatment and inhumane policies at the U.S. border.

Grateful to my 141 colleagues who joined me in voting against the $23.9 billion increase to the Pentagon's budget and in favor of a more balanced, responsible approach to our national security.

On Bi+ Visibility Day, we uplift the accomplishments of the bi community, celebrate their joy and resilience, and pledge to fight against bi-erasure and for full equality for the entire LGBTQ+ community. Happy #BiVisibilityDay!

We need to dispel the notion that our ability to respond to national security threats depends solely on the size of our military — and that we somehow need to spend money that even the Pentagon is not asking for.

We need to have an honest conversation about the Pentagon budget — and focus on what is achievable, what the real threats are, and what we actually need for our national security.

I'm in the House chamber right now to lead debate on @RepBarbaraLee 's amendment to remove the $23.9 billion increase to the defense budget and restore the original funding level requested by @POTUS and the @DeptofDefense. c-span.org/video/?514759-…

Horrified by the images of Border Patrol agents whipping migrants in Texas. @SecMayorkas must ensure that those at the border are treated humanely and hold those who abuse their power accountable.

10 years ago today, Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was repealed — a major step forward for our country.

I'm honored to represent #CA53 – a proud military community and the heart of San Diego's LGBTQ+ community – and to stand on the shoulders of Rep. Susan Davis, who fought to end #DADT.

I call this pic “#CareCantWait”— thanks for standing shoulder to shoulder with @HouseDemocrats, @aijenpoo! #BuildBackBetter

Today in the House Chamber we observed a moment of silence in remembrance of the servicemembers killed last month in Afghanistan. May their memories be a blessing.

Since the pandemic started, more than 500 San Diego child care providers have closed their doors.

I'm fighting for the Build Back Better Act — a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lower the cost of child care, expand availability, and boost wages for our essential care workers.

Nobody should have to choose between caring for their family and a pay check. I'm fighting for #PaidLeaveforAll to boost our economic growth and to help families.

Today is our 74th Birthday!

From humble beginnings in 1947, we stand on the shoulders of great Airmen who have helped build the world's greatest Air Force. We thank each and every person who has helped to build credibility and trust for our nation and our allies. #USAF74

This is unacceptable — and further proves the need for more accountability and oversight of our drone program. It’s clear we only learned the truth because this horrific miscalculation occurred in an urban area where an investigation into our failed intelligence was possible.
Breaking News: The Pentagon acknowledged that a U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan on Aug. 29 was a tragic mistake that killed 10 civilians, including seven children, a military official said.

In San Diego child care costs an average of $11,000 per child per year and over 60% of families don’t have enough providers nearby. I want to make sure local families are heard as we write the reconciliation bill.

#TeamSJ was so proud to join El Grito in Chula Vista last night to celebrate Mexican Independence Day! ¡Viva México!

Investing in early childhood pays for itself and is essential to increasing our economic competitiveness. Sen. Manchin is wrong to suggest we can’t afford it – the data shows we can’t afford not to. My op-ed -> thehill.com/blogs/congress…

G'mar Chatima Tova. In Jewish tradition, we reflect on the harms we have caused— intentionally or unintentionally— the past year and seek forgiveness. This year, more than ever, I'm thinking of that individual and collective responsibility. May we all find the healing we need.

San Diegans know well the importance of clean oceans and safe water. I stopped by Advanced Water Purification Pilot to learn more about this water project, which will provide 30% of East County's water supply and reduce discharge into our oceans.

#HispanicHeritageMonth is a time to uplift the incredible contributions of Hispanic-Americans and reflect on the necessary work ahead to make the American Dream a reality for all.

As we begin this month, I’m especially proud to represent #ca53 Hispanic & Latino communities.
