Carr controls the situation because he has a no-trade clause. For the Jets, timing is everything. Do they make a bid for Carr now or do they put their eggs in the Rodgers basket knowing that situation might not be resolved for a few weeks?
Raiders already have granted QB Derek Carr permission to speak with other teams interested in trading for him that have also agreed to compensation with Las Vegas, per sources.

It's the same arrangement the Texans had with quarterback Deshaun Watson last off-season.

Some serious defense in the AFC East.
After speaking with multiple teams about their defensive coordinator position, Vic Fangio has decided to join the Dolphins as their defensive coordinator and officially will accept the position on the Miami staff after the Super Bowl.

Justin Hardee (ST2), Quinnen Williams (IDL3) and Sauce Gardner (CB4) made it from the Jets.
NFL players are honoring the best in the game. We've got the Top 5 players at their position–voted on specifically by those who play their position + those they line up against.

A name to watch. #Jets have a hole at center as Connor McGovern heads to free agency.
A strong argument can be made that #Minnesota center John Michael Schmitz has been the best player at the Senior Bowl.

Expected him to have a big week and he’s been excellent through two days of practice.

"Can he turn Garrett Wilson into a superstar?" Whomever it is that you're referring to as "he" this is a silly question. He's well on his way to becoming a superstar with Mike White & Zach throwing him the ball.
Replying to @Michael_P
There are only a handful of superstar WRs. Wilson is off to a great start, but I think he’d be the first to say he hasn’t reached his ceiling yet.

Can he salvage Zach Wilson? Can he turn Garrett Wilson into a superstar? What’s the biggest concern? And, of course, can he lure Aaron Rodgers?

Let’s address the big questions as Nathaniel Hackett begins his new gig. #Jets espn.com/blog/new-york-…

Shanahan basically rules out a Jimmy G return to SF, meaning the QB is headed to free agency. A potential fallback option for the #Jets espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…

Fun with the looming QB carousel: Reporters play GM and bid for Carr, Tannehill, etc. I just spent a lot of Woody bucks for this veteran. #Jets espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…

Breaking: Tom Brady is retiring from the NFL, he announces on IG.

A great head coach is absolutely worth a first-round pick +. Payton will change the Denver culture the moment he walks through the door. Saw it happen with Parcells/#Jets. And I don't think the #Patriots regret giving up a 1 for Belichick (though he wasn't "great" at the time).

Rodgers: "Love Hack. Hack is my guy. Love him and Megan and the kids. They're really special to me. We really bonded when he was in Green Bay. He made it fun. He made the room fun. He made the weeks fun." Rodgers says he still hasn't made decision on whether he will play. #Jets

Roster move: The #Jets signed WR/KR Diontae Spencer to a reserve/future contract. He spent last season on the practice squad.

Most compelling free-agent decision for the #Jets? Hint: Some people have affectionately tagged him with the middle initials F.N. espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…

Where the #Jets rank in yearly QB spending (this explains some things. Probably will be a lot higher in '23):

2017: 25

This could have an indirect impact on the Jets -- i.e. Jimmy Garoppolo, who will be an UFA. Maybe now the chances are greater that he stays in SF.
Brock Purdy suffered a torn UCL that will sideline him six months, per source.

Right now, the Jets are $2.8 million OVER the cap, per overthecap.com. They can get comfortably under the cap with some cuts and restructures, but they won’t be swimming in cap space like the previous two years.
NFL teams were informed that the 2023 salary cap will be $224.8M, as @TomPelissero & @RapSheet reported.

The Bears are projected to have close to $100M in salary cap space, by far most in the NFL.

Others flush with cap include the Falcons, Giants and Bengals.

Today’s predictions:

Eagles 23, 49ers 17 — Purdy isn’t pur-fect anymore. Philly’s pass rush forces him into a couple of big mistakes.

Bengals 27, Chiefs 24 — Cincy plays coverage, forces Mahomes to hold longer than prefers. Ankle a factor.

Record: 8-2 (straight up)

Go get Rodgers at all costs.

No, too expensive, too old.

Reminder: These are different from the NFL awards, coordinated by @AP_Sports and announced Feb. 9. The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of ‘23 also will be revealed that day. Will Klecko and Revis make it a daily double for the #Jets?

Seattle QB Geno Smith named Comeback Player of the Year and Most Improved Player by the @PFWAwriters. Not sure what he came back from, but certainly deserving of most improved. #nfl

For kicks, I checked what Saleh said about Hackett before the Denver game in October:

"Nathaniel Hackett is as good as anyone in terms of getting people open and creating schemes that stress you. So, when you watch the tape, there’s a lot of hard concepts to defend" ... cont
Replying to @RichCimini
... "The players are doing a really nice job executing. They are centimeters off in terms of creating three or four plays a game where they could be averaging 30 points a game." They were averaging 15 ppg at that point. #Jets

Is it? An aging team who traded all their draft picks away? Not so sure about that Rich, don't think I agree.
Replying to @mikeywmFREE
Gets to work alongside McVay and a proven QB. Already knows the system.

Former #Jets OC Mike LaFleur is being hired as the Rams' OC, source confirms. This had been in the works since the season ended. A great landing spot for LaFleur.

Rich, since you continue to avoid which QB for the Jets, can you at least say that the QB for 23 is not currently on the roster?

I’m not sure what you mean by avoiding. I don’t think the QB1 is on the roster.

ANALYSIS: It would be the ultimate Super Bowl-or-bust move. Plenty of upside. And, yes, some risk/downside. Here’s a closer look. #Jets espn.com/blog/new-york-…

Final results: the fans will like Hackett a lot better if he’s calling plays for No. 12

Unfair to blame Hackett for everything that went wrong in Denver. His system wasn't a good fit for Russell Wilson. It's a quick-read/timing/rhythm scheme; Wilson likes to hold the ball + make plays outside the pocket. Square peg, round hole. Could NH have adapted scheme? ...
Replying to @RichCimini
Sure, that's easy to say, but not always easy to do with a QB set in his ways. Obviously, Denver had plenty of other issues. Hackett failed as a HC there, but that doesn't mean he's doomed to fail with #Jets. Presumably, he learned important lessons.

A what-if moment in Jets history ...
Jets were set to hire Bills coach Doug Marrone over Todd Bowles as HC in 2015 until a newspaper story unfairly trashing Marrone scared off Woody Johnson. If Marrone had been hired, he likely would have brought his OC from Syracuse and Bills w/him. His name: Nathaniel Hackett.

More on the hiring on Nathaniel Hackett and what it might mean for the #Jets and their potential pursuit of a certain body-cleansing, insurance-endorsing QB. 🧀espn.com/nfl/story/_/id…

Saleh on Wilson: "We still have a lot of faith in him ... Want to give him every opportunity to grow and develop...very confident in Nathaniel and his ability (to develop him)." #Jets

Saleh on Hackett-Carter tandem: "I feel like we hit a home run." #Jets

Saleh says he was "shocked" that Keith Carter was fired by the Titans. #Jets

While it was certainly suggested in recent interviews that they want a veteran QB, I think this was the first time that Saleh actually came out and said it...not that it's major news.
Saleh on whether he discussed vet QBs with Hackett: Admits the QB position was "No. 1 concern," claims they didn't get into names. "It was talked about that we want to bring in a veteran QB if we can" + still work with Wilson. #Jets
