Very concerned about the news from #Tonga. @WHO is ready to support the government and provide help to the people affected by the tsunami.
 
Our @WHO team and @UN_Pasifika are on the ground in #Tonga responding and gathering information following the volcano and tsunami. Immediate priorities are emergency telecommunications, water supply, and support to the outer islands.
My thoughts are with those affected.

My heart is with those affected by Typhoon #OdettePH. Our @WHOWPRO and @WHOPhilippines teams are coordinating with government and other @UNPhilippines agencies to respond. We have been experiencing increased extreme weather events that have dire effects on peoples鈥 health.
Typhoon #OdettePH has affected 1.8M people & displaced ~630,000 in Regions V, VI, VII, VIII, X, XI, IV-B & CARAGA. Hundreds in the hardest-hit islands lost their lives.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by the typhoon.

I was very sorry to learn that four nurses in East New Britain had passed away from COVID-19. This would not have been the case if they had been vaccinated. We must protect our health care workers.

In April 2020, Singapore faced a large #COVID19 outbreak in its migrant dormitories & the Prime Minister committed to ensuring workers' welfare. I was encouraged to see how the Min. for Manpower has translated the PM's words into action to ensure they are protected and cared for.

This afternoon, Dr Kasai had the opportunity to visit the MAIWP-Hospital Selayang Cataract Surgery Centre in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur. Through this partnership, MAIWP provides MOH with a converted multi-storey shophouse complete with 2 operating rooms & state of the art equipment

I was privileged to visit a community #mentalhealth centre to learn about the important work being done to bring care closer to communities. #COVID19 has significantly increased the prevalence of mental health problems and has challenged our thinking around how to address them.
