Been saying…
So everything non-white is now considered "woke"? Got it.

i would say we're in a pretty bad place if @_MarkSutcliffe used to have erica + bad and bitchy on his radio show but now hes just listening to his white higherups to follow the white status quo

Historical
The first Super Bowl ever with two Black starting quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts and both played high school football in Texas.
NFL history.
Texas history.

To be Black is not only to be targeted for questioning an arrest, it is also to be "proximate to death"—that is, to live with an accentuated vulnerability to being violently beaten by police or by prison guards or to being killed by the police.

@_MarkSutcliffe @OC_Transpo, this isn't right. Many Ottawans can likely relate to the experience Erica describes in the thread below.

So without any other public option my dad and I decided to walk home. On the way home my 70-yr-old dad tripped over the uncleared sidewalk and hurt his knee. He fell again later. Why? The snow wasn’t cleared on the sidewalks. Another public service gone downhill 5/n

We saw more Ottawa Police cars in 45 min than @OC_Transpo buses. Safety is the ability to confidently move around unimpeded given resources. My 70-yr-old dad is not safe on the streets of #ottcity bc of the lack of properly functioning public services not bc of lack of police 6/n

In reply to @wickdchiq
Remember: @OC_Transpo costs $3.70 not to show up on time. The #11 that was to arrive at that stop at 8:08 pm didn’t show. By the time it would’ve showed that elderly woman’s transfer would have probably expired. She would’ve had to fork out another $3.70 on a fixed income 4/n

There was also no R1 bus in service so we walked from Lyon station to the bus stop outside of @CBCOttawa to wait for the #11. Come to find out that the next bus was coming in 37 mins. An elderly woman w disabilities was trying to get home, had to wait for the LRT, then #11 3/n

Tonight I took my 70-yr-old dad, who is visiting me, to church. St Patrick’s to be exact. We got there okay using the #LRT but on the way home the #LRT wasn’t working and the electronic board said “held”. We all know that means you don’t know what the next train is coming 2/n

So lemme tell you a story about @_MarkSutcliffe’s Ottawa of the have and have-nots—an Ottawa that continues Jim Watson’s legacy of a Tale of Two Ottawas with high inequalities of access to functioning public services:

"School choice" is code for re-segregation.

Parents who want to send their kids to religious and mostly-white schools steal from tax payers to subsidize their bigotry.

No public funding for non-public schools.

If I see it on my TL, you’re outta here. Idc if you’re quoting it to express disdain either. You’re gone.

I’m confused as to why media ran it without any additional context or consideration for Black communities. Isn’t that what their post-George Floyd DEI positions are for?

1. This image has always haunted me. The mundane act of putting on shoes after praying becomes a symbol of death by white supremacy. Who claimed the shoes after? Was it the 17 children left without fathers? The injured survivors?

This is what “tough on crime” gets you: a thread 🧵
The Memphis video reminds me of the way people used to describe how Atlanta's REDDOG anti-drug unit worked. Memphis' police chief, Cerelyn Davis, oversaw REDDOG before it was disbanded for its murderous abuses. Atlanta tried - and failed - to fire Davis for an act of corruption.
